tried something new tonight with the fish and chips (ash wednesday, no meat). . . rather than use the potatoes that come in the package, i used just the fish and replaced the potatoes with a low fat low carb tortilla. made a burrito with the fish, chopped tomatoes, chopped lettuce, one slice of low fat jack cheese (35 calories) fat free salsa and a little chopped onion, and oh yes, some hot pepper (love the hot stuff). . it was so good and so fillilng. i estimated the chips (7 french fries type potato) to be the same 70 calories as the tortilla (josephs large size wheat, flax, oatbran) yummy! try it you'll like it. . . .

I love fish tacos, and I've done this with the JC fish as well. I usually put the potatoes in with another meal (can't waste food - makes for an expensive 2 pieces of fish).

I also mix some plain Greek yogurt with fresh salsa for a creamy condiment, and I don't usually add the cheese.

Fish & Chips is my favorite too! I have them every Sunday & Tuesday. (while typing this I realized it's Tuesday and it made me smile - LOL). So, I dare not mess with a good thing. The tacos do sound good tho. . . wonder if my JCC would think I flipped if I had the same meal three nights in one week? laugh.gif

I like to replace potatoes too (chips..whatever.. LOL) This is what I got from "Ask the dietitian"

Potatoes from Fish and Chips= 2 Starches and approximately 160 calories.
So you can save quite a bit replacing the potatoes. smile.gif

The Fish and Chips has two things going for it:

1. Amazingly delicious

2. 250 calories with FRIES.

I <3 the fish and Chips!

Jules, I think your JCC would be OK if you ate this three times a week. It's one of the lower cal dinners!

yum yum yum I had them tonight for dinner!
I am mad at myself for waiting almost 9 long weeks to finally try them!
The first time I took them out of the package I thought "uh oh... look how tiny..."
But I find them so filling! And I don't do a thing to them except add some black pepper to the fries.

My favorite way to prepare this is to substitute 1 tsp. of olive oil for the margarine and toss some broccoli, yellow squash, and the chips with the olive oil and the juice of half a lemon until they're all coated. I add salt, pepper, and garlic powder and spread everything on a foil-lined cookie sheet that I sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. I put the fish on the cookie sheet to and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. My all time favorite JC meal this way because I love roasted veggies and the chips taste great too!
