WELCOME to WEEK ONE of the Survivor Weight Loss Challenge!

Anyone can join at anytime. If you would like to join the fun, please post the following information and I will add you to a team roster:
  • Your JC name / first name (optional)
  • WI day
  • Your current weight

WEEK ONE MINI-CHALLENGE:
Besides our collective weight loss for the week, we will have "mini-challenges" each week that will be related to the challenge on Survivor from the previous week. On last week's Survivor, there was a water challenge - so that's a GREAT place to start! You only have to participate in the mini-challenge if you want to.
  • CHALLENGE: Drink at LEAST 64 ounces of water daily.
    • Keep track of your water each day. You can post on here daily if you want the accountability and encouragement from your team. But that's up to you.
    • On Saturday, post whether or not you completed the challenge for all seven days.
    • For each team member that completes this week's mini-challenge, a bonus point will be added to your team's score. Those bonus points will be added at the end of the 8 weeks to the team's collective weight loss for the final scores.

Here are the teams:
BLUE TEAM:
  • msnelson13
  • LoseItIn2011
  • Lisa Bilz
  • klump12

RED TEAM:
  • dietmama
  • Darbyk
  • All-in-Ang
  • Ladybug
  • Leslie74 (I won't include my weight loss until we get another person to put on Blue team to make it even)

I hope we all have some fun with this, and that it encourages you to get out there and increase your activity, stick to the food plan, and make some new friends in the process!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!
~ Leslie

Hi Laura- thanks for the update on your WI yesterday. I will mark that as your starting weight for the challenge. But CONGRATULATIONS on losing this week!

So, for those of you who watch "Survivor", does anyone have a favorite to win? Or a guess as to who will make it to the top 4? I don't think Russell is going to get as far as he has in his last 2 seasons - I think they are all onto him! Unless he can outlast everyone at Redemtion Island... Phillip drives me batty! I'm still on the fence as to who will make it. It's weird, last season I correctly predicted 3 of the 4 finalists after the first episode!

Happy Monday!

P.S. swimming in my first 34 ounces of H2O for the day....do the bathroom trips ever end?

P.S.S. What does everyone do for activity on your plan? I'd love some suggestions - I have been walking my dogs (not enough and not for long enough) and just got Kinect for Xbox so am trying some of the games and workouts on that. But the exersion I feel doing that doesn't seem to register as much activity on my BodyMedia armband.

Down .6 lbs this week - so please add that to my team.

Just saw this mini-challenge, so beginning to suck down water now.

My exercise plan -- Boot Camp on T, W, Th. Running (Couch to 5K) on Monday. Try to do one active thing (biking, hiking) on the weekend.

Boot camp is the new craze. There are small companies popping up everywhere that offer this cross-fit style workout. I am addicted, since I know I will get a great full-body workout everytime, and I know I will show up b/c I am accountable to be there at a certain place and time.

Check out the boot camps in your area!

Hi ladies.

I also had a .6 lb loss today. (At least I'm in "One-derland"!)

I've been drinking my water too. I've been going to the bathroom so often, I feel like I'm 9 months pregnant again!

Oh, and I'll be in Disney World this weekend and will have a Wednesday WI instead b/c of the trip.

Both my girls are on spring break the next two weeks so I'm hoping to get all my exercise in. I'm waiting for them to go to bed tonight so I can go for my C25K run.

Take care and good luck this week!

Hi all,

Sorry, but I didn't check email on Sunday so I didn't see the water challenge till this morning. Love water, but this is a ridiculous amount. I can see that I've definitely fallen short on water consumption in the past. So far am making the amount. Only 16 ounces to go!

I weigh in on Saturdays so my true start weight should be 155...wasn't the best at following the plan. This week will be better. Heck with all this water, maybe I won't be as hungry. biggrin.gif

Hi, I made my 64oz again today...I was already consistently chugging down about 48 oz...I guess the extra 16 really makes a difference. I too have been going to the bathroom non-stop today!

My WI is tomorrow...a little nervous as I was sick last week and my activity is just now ramping up to what it usually is...I'm .9 lbs from being in the 180's..I want to make it there so badly tomorrow...but if I don't I need to mentally prepare myself not to have a mental melt-down and head for the chocolate aisle at the grocery store:)

in answer to the activity question. I practice taekwondo and run, I also take my dog on a 2 mile walk every night. Just bought an Xbox Kinect for the family..I agree it doesn really create a big calorie burn...but it's still better playing xbox with the family than lounging on the couch watching TV:)

alright - all my teamies checked in today - go Red! I finished off my water earlier today, hopefully I sleep a little longer and make less trips! Hey, at least I am getting a few extra steps in. wink.gif

My rebounder (mini trampoline) is the best activity burn i get for how hard I feel like I am working - almost too easy. Considering how much more it registers than other activity. I also find Leslie Sansone's walking videos to be good (I have the walk slim series).

I try to hit all of my targets everyday and so far my weightloss has been steady - but still have a "weighs" to go :Plol.

Survivor - I think Russell is pretty tenacious, I can see him lasting long enough to get back - but then we don't know how long that will be. My family thinks it will be aroun the time of the merge/beginning of Jury. Seems only right that if someone hangs in there on Redemption Island that they would at least make it to the Jury! that little girl he picked, she sure was defensive of him - admired father figure or major crush??? She can go next!

I really like Rob, would be nice to see him at least make it longer than Russel - that would be a clash of the Titans for sure if he has to go to redemption Island when Russell is still there!
Blessings,

Ladybug

I have a question about the water challenge. Does it have to be water? I usually shoot for at least 64 oz of liquid a day. My day usually looks like this:
Cereal day: 8 oz skim milk
Non cereal day: tall skinny vanilla latte
1-2 cups of green or peach tea
30 oz of water
20 oz diet snapple

If this can count then I have hit 64 oz every day.

I have a Kinect too - I like the biggest loser on there but it doesn't keep me coming back. I've heard good things about Dance Central but haven't tried it yet.

I'm not watching survivor but I am watching biggest loser if anyone wants to talk about that :-)

Good job All-in-Ang! cheering for you!!

I too made my 64 oz, but it took me all day to do......

LoseItIn2011 - Leslie can make the official call re what can count as water, but usually it cannot be milk or latte, not sure about juice. The tea should be fine though. Why not post to the dietician and see what they say?

I watch Biggest Loser too - but unfortunately have to record and then watch Thurs or Fri as have group meetings on Tues - and of course Survivor is on Wed!! So I have to be careful to not find out anything until then. tongue.gif

Happy Wednesday everyone! WOW - so many posts - I'm not sure where to start!

Congratulations to everyone who have had a loss at their WI so far this week! Way to go! I will be weighing in tomorrow night which is a day earlier than usual but I couldn't get in on a Friday this week. I'm pretty sure I will have a significant weight loss this week - keeping fingers crossed!

For those of you who didn't see the water challenge until Monday, let's count Monday-Sunday as your 7 day week so you can get all 7 days in! YAY!

Water Question and some facts:
(taken from a weight loss class I took by Herbalife, based on cumulative research - I can get the name of where this data comes from if anyone is interested, but here goes)
  • Milk and soda doesn't count. Herbal teas can count as water, but anything with caffeine in it is a diuretic which causes your body to dehydrate - so for every cup of coffee or tea or caffeinated soda you drink, you are supposed to drink TWO glasses of water to counter the diuretic effect.
  • A minimum of 64 ounces of water a day for the "average" person is suggested to keep the body hydrated. It should be drank evenly throughout the day rather than in big gulps because if you chug it down, it just goes straight through you to the bathroom.
  • HOWEVER, if you are on a diet and want to lose more a guide is to drink 1 ounce for every 2 pounds of body weight. (YEP, so if you weigh 200 pounds, you should drink 100 ounces of water a day for optimum weight loss!!!!) If you have a medical condition that doesn't allow much water intake, do not try this.
  • Water makes your metabolism burn calories 3% faster - so let it do the work for you!
  • Water suppresses appetite naturally and is key in burning stored fat. Your body doesn't know the difference between hunger and thirst so when you feel hungry, drink water first!
  • Studies show that a decrease in water intake can cause fat deposits to increase! (OH NO!!!)
  • Your kidneys do not function properly without adequate water intake.
  • Water also helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving them natural ability to contract and not be dehydrated. Also it helps prevent sagging skin from weight loss and develops a clear radiant complexion.
  • Water flushes waste products from the body so it helps eliminate constipation.

So grab that glass of water and enjoy!

Survivor:
I loved Russell before, but I'm kind of done with him now. I want someone new to rise in the ranks over Rob and Russell to win. I agree...that Stephanie girl has a serious celebrity crush on Russell! I have a few favorites but can't think of their names right now...but I can't wait for the show tonight!!!!!

Kinect:
I am really liking the Your Shape Fitness Extreme game. It has some great fitness workouts and is all based on your age, weight, activity level, goals, etc. Pretty cool system. It's hard to get the steps exactly like your trainer especially since I'm out of shape, but I do what I can. It's kind of creepy to see yourself as an image on the computer screen - it makes me want to lose weight even more so that my computer self looks better! LOL Darn that infrared scanner's accuracy!!!
I do think I want to get Dance Central - for some fun activity. It's by the makers of Rock Band and those games are excellent.

Activity:
I looked at boot camps but the one in Rocklin is only at 5:30am in the mornings and I just can't get up that early! I also don't think I'm physically capable of keeping up yet, but I hope to find one that I can participate in after dropping a few more pounds.
I want to try a Zumba class, but I haven't yet.
I also really want to do the C25K program, however I did try it before and my ankles and calves just can't handle any jogging yet. So I have to build up stamina in longer faster walks for awhile before diving into that. But I REALLY want to try jogging/running - my body just isn't ready for that yet.
