Ok, this is probably the craziest question put on a forum, but the weather people are predicting an ice storm for the midwest. I'm in Indiana and they are expecting about one inch of ice then snow. The problem is I have Jenny Craig food, probably enough to get me through a few days (my weekly appt is on Tuesday evenings, and if this storm comes through I'm sure we will have to reschedule). BUT if we have no electricity, what do I prepare? Cereal and canned tuna, canned chicken???? Any ideas. Most likely this will amount to nothing, but I like to be prepared. Thanks.

Stock up jc's shelf stable foods, and the chicken/tuna salad kits. They offer quite a bit of the SS Foods. They arent usually my forte' but in this situation I would buy them....anything to stay on plan right?

I have been watching this storm that is predicted for your area....it looks mean. I hope you guys are ok. Stay warm and bundle up. I would say this is great time for ff hot cocoa, a good book, scented candles and good ole family time......oh wait, thats my preference everyday. ha

Thanks for the advise and encouragement Melissa. I did call the JC Center for advise also. She suggested Whole Grain Cheerios, tuna and chicken (canned). I did pick all that up plus fruit, milk and FF popcorn.

By the way, your grandson is adoreable.......gads it seems like forever since mine where that young. I'm blessed with three. One granddaughter 5 y rs. Two grandsons 4 & 2. Love them to death.

Again, thanks for the help. Gonna get my Kindle ready..........

Joan

I am in the path of the same storm. We have a wood burning stove and lots of wood ready in case we lose power. I will just put my meals on top of the wood burner to heat them up. I think my husband has a generator also.

Stay warm and be safe, ladies. I'm well out of the storm path and we never get snow but I spent many years living in the snowy Northeast.
We had a kerosene heater for emergencies and used to heat food on top of it when the power went out. When we moved to a house with a gas stove it was much easier to deal with the cooking---just lit the burners with a match. Candles, battery powered lanterns, all sorts of emergency stuff in our special Emergency Box. Ahhhh, memories....

BB, agree, after living in New England, storms are second nature. Ice is the worst, and so dangerous, would rather miss a day of work than to chance driving--er, skating on it, for sure.
I am in the path for the lower edge of the ice storm. It is already sleeting outside, and today I charged up my portable generator. Fondue pots with a Sterno can beneath it, is great for heating soups, shelf stables, etc.. Good to go.
Be safe, everyone. wink.gif
