My cousin is also working on his own diet and just ordered some Shiratake Noodles since he's been staying away from carbs and is craving something "starchy". You can find varieties that are as low as literally ZERO calories to about 40 calories per serving. And they may have some additional health benefits.

Has anyone hear of these? I'm pretty happy with the JC menu so far but think this may be a great option.

From the search I did on the forum, the dietician counts them as free food or limited free depending on the variety.

Zero calorie pasta! Sounds too good to be true, right? Is there something I'm missing?

Hi
I have heard of them but have not tried them. Have you heard of the website/TV show/book called Hungry Girl? She uses them alot and has lots of recipes for them, but I have not tried them. Let me know if you do and if they are yummy!

I LOVE them as a pasta substitute. I have a few bags in the frig now. (I haven't had it on JC because I'm only 2 1/2 weeks in, plus I get my fill of pasta with the JC meals. I know I'll incorporate them later as allowed.)

The consistency is not exactly like pasta, but I got used to it pretty quickly -- especially when I could have a huge plate of "pasta" for 40 calories. Half the bag is a serving, I think, which is 20 calories. I melt a Laughing Cow into it and sprinkle just a touch of 2% shredded cheese, salt and pepper.

LaurainVA is right -- the Hungry Girl website does have good tips/recipes for Shirataki noodles.

You absolutely have to soak/rinse/soak/rinse several times plus give them a brief run in the microwave, in water, and rinse again.
They have a rather funky aroma fresh out of the package but it totally disappears when you handle it right. Then it's fabulous---a kinda stretchy pasta substitute that you can add to virtually anything at little caloric cost!

I LOVE them- and on the Hungry Girl website there was a blurb that they will be introducing a new macaroni shape. They do need to be rinsed, microwaved, dried a bit before using. Also, the noodles are very long, so snip them a bit. They are wonderful in soups, made with cheese sauce like laughing cow, and mixed with veggies with a bit of low sodium soy sauce.
They just don't work that great with tomato sauce- I tried and am glad I didn't give up on them! They count as a limited free food on program, btw.

Hello aashber. My cousin bought them online but I actually found them at my local Winn Dixie supermarket. They were in the produce section near the alfalfa sprouts, tofu, etc.

I still haven't tried them but am looking forward to it. Hope you are enjoying JC so far! Good luck!

Thanks for the quick response. I will have to try some health stores or Asian store. Ther's no Winn Dixie where I live.

Is there a Shoprite near you? They sell them. Or like you said, I've seen them at some Asian markets.

I checked at the Hugry Girl website for store location and hopefully whole foods has it. still have to go to the store to check out. Haven't reached the halfway goal yet so cannot plan my meal, just waiting to reach there so the very next day I could have some noodles. I am vegetarian and JC does not offer much veggie choices, so getting really bored with the food. But thanks to you I came across this topic.
