I've always been a pure sugar girl ... figured that since I don't have much of a sweet-tooth, I'm fine with the real stuff. However, I'm trying to cut out as much as I can to lose the weight and so wanted to gather opinions.

Do you use Splenda or Sweet 'N Low? Which is your favorite and why?

I prefer Splenda. It's derived from real sugar, so it tastes more like sugar. Sweet and Low has a chemical aftertaste to me. I won't touch it. Stevia is good, too. It's a more natural sweetner.

I agree with the last poster, this year, my goal was to cut aspartame (sweet n low) completely out of my diet - that means no diet drinks, crystal lite, etc....

I did that successfully and haven't consumed it since march of this year - it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I cut the aspartame out since it's a known migraine trigger and i suffer from migraines. Plus, I don't like some of the reported side effects/data out on sweet n low. The use/disuse of sweet n low (aspartame) is controversial, and I don't want to get into that. I don't think others are wrong for consuming it -> i'm just pointing out this is a decision I made for myself.

So, I use splenda and truvia only. Truvia is my favorite since it's all natural, completely. It's taken from the stevia plant leaf. Truvia is the most well known stevia brand.

I found, after going off aspartame, that my sweet cravings diminished drastically!! So, I do encourage others to limit the artificial sweeteners in their diet because I feel it leads to cravings for more sweets (this has also been studied and proves to be true). Sweet n low is 100 times sweeter than sugar! No wonder we want to eat a huge dessert after consuming it all day!! I like stevia because it isn't as sweet and I don't get that craving for more sweet stuff with it. I limit splenda beverages to only 1 or 2 a day.

There are a few beverages out there sweetened with truvia: sobe lifewaters zero calorie, vitamin water zero, and crystal light pure fitness is stevia based.

Splenda sweetened drinks: pepsi one, diet coke with splenda, publix brand diet drinks, walgreens brand diet drinks, and diet rite.

That's my two cents :-)

I used pure Stevia. You can buy it in liquid (my preference) and powered forms at health food stores. I keep a bottle in my purse to use for tea/coffee/etc.

Splenda, I do think has a nice taste. . .but I was having a lot of side effects with it a couple of years ago. I switched to Stevia and my hair stopped falling out, my exhaustion when away (as well as other side effects). If you're wondering about the side effects, google "splenda side effects" and you'll be shocked. I had to go 'cold turkey' off of it for several months. Now, I can have it in limited quantities (like in soda & packaged food), but don't add it to anything.
Blessings,

Just to clarify:

Sweet 'n Low = saccharin
Equal = aspartame

And Truvia does not = stevia. It's a derivative, which means it's been chemically altered, just like Splenda is a derivative of sugar. Neither are natural in my mind.

For me, it's Sweet 'n Low, though I rarely use any. I figure it's been around for-nearly-ever, it's pretty harmless...I'd rather stick with the evil I know...but in reality, none of them are good for us.

Now that I have read through some of other people's thoughts I wonder very seriously how the Truvia tastes. I have always used "Equal" in my coffee and fortuantely I do not really drink soda's. So I don't really use much sugar at all. At one point years ago I used Splenda and I liked that too...just enjoy Equal better in my morning coffee.

I am finally giving up my sugar and found that Splenda is the best. I still put a pinch of sugar along with the Splenda in my coffee and hot chocolate. The pinch is just enough to get me over the Splenda tast.

Agree that Splenda tastes the best, although the box just sits on my shelf, as I don't use it in coffee. Once in awhile, I will sprinkle it on fresh berries.

I have also read alot of bad news about other sweetners so I only use Sweet Leaf Stevia sold in the health food department of my local grocery store.

I vote for Truvia, Splenda and Equal.
Sweet & Low tastes too chemically sweet.
I use the fake sweetners in my coffee. So far, no bad side effects.

I recently kicked my coke zero habit (which replaced my coca cola habit developed in my teens) because of sweeteners. My brother has done some research and become very concerned about sweeteners - sugar initially - and has switched mostly to honey as truly raw sugar hard to come by. When he talked to me about it I realized how much aspartame I was consuming (in drinks) for calorie reasons so he looked into that and advised aspartame was worse than sugar and stevia would be best choice for me. I buy it in little packets like splenda comes in, and carry some with me. Sadly Coca Cola does not have a diet product without aspartame in Canada. I still have the occasional coke product, but only perhaps 1 can once a week.

I am grateful to Alissa018 for posting about other brands using truvia, hopefully it is not too bad even though altered. Especially a chrystal light product will be very good to have, as I liked those especially in summer to liven up my water!
Blessings,

Ladybug
