So, I'm no longer losing weight (I am gaining) simply because I'm not being held accountable for anything. I know that every week I go into the center, consultants will have no time for me and I can skirt around everything. I will pick up my food and not stick to it, and always get away with it. I'm embarassed of how I look and how people see my weight fluctuating all the time, gaining weight more often than not. It's very obvious. When I stick to JC I lose, but right now it's just not happening.

I'm really tired of this, and it's not fair that I'm paying to gain weight and therefore am hurting myself (because I so desperately want to lose it, but don't seem to have control right now and nobody qualified is helping).

The consultants do not seem to know what they're doing and spit out general advice - not to be snooty, but I am very informed on nutrition and have come to realize I am more qualified than the consultant I speak to. I can do a much better job than they do, and infact have considered it. But that doesn't change the fact that the one person I cannot help is myself.

Just putting this out there in hope that maybe someone can relate and help get me out of this dark hole!! I can't go to another center because they are too far - all I can do is keep showing up every week and try to be my own mentor. Keep telling myself I deserve to lose the weight, and get back there and do it!!!

:::: throwing a line into the dark hole... now grab it and climb out of there ::::::

Yes, you paid good money to lose weight. The consultant may or may not be doing their job and that is another issue. Let's just talk right now about your part in this. You have all the books... have you read them? You have this website, have you gone through it and read the program ideas?, YOU can do this smile.gif I know you can... but you have to do your part.

The paper you have with all the food. Do not think of anything off that paper. Try to just get the food thing under control right now. Make sure you have your veggies and your fruits and your yogurt, all the things you need to fill in around your Jenny meals. Get a really big bottle of water at the store. Drink it down and refill it and drink another one down... and there you go with your water for the day. With the exercise, honestly, you can add that later on, just work on the food right now. Get your head into the program with or without the consultant.

Once you get yourself into this whole program, you can deal with the consultant and you will feel more empowered to just tell her/him... "wait a minute I've been doing this without your help and now I need you to get with the program and be there for me". You are paying for this program and deserve their attention. What will help you with this new found empowerment is your confidence that you are doing the program.

Now, if you are not sticking with the program and using the consultant as an excuse for your up and down on the scale, that is something you need to really look inside yourself about. I hope this isn't the case, but a lot of times our minds really do keep justifying our sabotage in things sad.gif That isn't what you want to do right?

Everyone here is on the same journey as you. All different mindsets, all different opinions but we are all eating the same foods and working to get to our own goals.

Truly want to see you reach yours smile.gif

Have a great day
Dawn

Dawn, thank you - you are an inspiration! I'm going to focus on that paper, even do my exercise on top of it, and go from there. One thing at a time and I will make it, will deal with the consultant once I'm ready and really back in. You made my day, so thank you and enjoy!

Totally agree with the posting above. Losing weight is always going to begin with your frame of mind. You have to make the decision for yourself to stick with it no matter what. In addition to what was said above, if you just feel like you need someone to talk to about your progress and discuss your weekly challenges/goals/accomplishments with, seek out a buddy here on the forum. Put a posting up that you are looking for a buddy preferably in your area to do weekly check ins with. That may help with your sense of accountability. Although I firmly believe that accountability should ultimately begin and end with yourself, when you are in the beginning stages of losing weight, outside factors can be of great assistance. Feeling like I was in competition with my friend who is also on Jenny gave me that sense of accountability in the beginning but now that I am almost nine weeks into the program, I have found 100% accountability within myself whether or not my friend does better or worse than me on any given week.

Good luck to you!

Hi. I'm standing shoulder to shoulder with Dawn. She's spot on and provides excellent advice.

I would like to share with you that I have been in a similar spot as you and used it to my advantage for several months, knowing that I wouldn't be held accountable by my JCC. There are several other consultants where I'm at that are very good and so when I decided I wanted to do better and wanted a consultant that wanted me to do better, I talked to my consultant and said in a nice way that while I thought she was great, I find that I really connect well with Christina and would like to "switch" over to seeing her. It's not uncommon for people to ask for another consultant and so hopefully, the consultants have been trained well-enough not to take it personally. I recommend you ask to work with someone else that you really think will help you better by connecting with you. If you don't have a person in mind, call the center and ask to talk to the manager. Tell him/her that you want to work with someone who would be a little more aggressive with you and would take a stronger role in your success.

SBA, you deserve to get the attention you need and have someone pulling for you. I find it's not so much the info they provide, but the service of listening, problem solving and coaching.

Hope this helps. We all want you to succeed right along with us!

SBA, I sincerely hope you have gotten back on track now.

I have had good consultants, so-so consultants, and a few really good ones. They were all there for me every week, but when it came to accountability, I had to be accountable to myself.

I'll never forget one time when I was struggling, was dealing with a new JCC, and was finally being open and honest with my JCC about what was going on with me. I was having lots of accountability issues. She looked at me and said, "What is it you want me to do? I'm not going to yell at you or act like a drill sergeant. This is your program to do or not do. It's the accountability you demand from yourself that is going to get it done."

As far as knowing more about nutrition than they do, there are quite few people in this world to consult about nutrition. The JCCs are there to teach you how to do the JC program, and they are just the vehicles for the program designed by Registered Dietitians. Some will do the job well, and some may not--but ultimately, your success is up to you, not anyone else.

If there is something specific you know of that you need, some particular style of dealing with people, then have a chat with the program director or the center director, and tell them what you need from them.

My counselor has been MIA since the beginning of Jan and others are not calling me in her absence. Got any advice on how to resolve this? Since I'm a Jenny Direct client, who should I ask to talk to instead of the "Center Director" to get a new and dependable counselor?

I understand that it is hard and i am not that far in the program myself but U cant down yourself for messing up. Get back on your feet and try and again. Food is really an addiction and it is not just yourself there would be no JENNY CRAIG if you were alone. i have just learned what some good key points when losing weight and that is burn more calories then you take in. I have never learned that in the past. Have you checked to see if there were other centers in your area? I battle this addiction every day. My gym is on top of a asian resturant and it smells so good I have to just run in so i wont be tempted to go eat yes I could get another gym but I need to get enough will power to conquer this problem and it is only one day at a time. If watch tv food is there, if your in the schools there is food in the machines it's every where. So just keep trying WE will all get through this. I dont always think that my concultant helps me like i want her to but just remember that "THIS IS THEIR JOB AND THIS IS OUR LIFE THEY COULD ALWAYS FIND ANOTHER JOB BUT WE COULDNT GET OUR LIVES BACK"!!! ( sorry for the all caps but i wanted to make sure you didnt miss that) Keep your head up and keep it moving..

Like they've said before, don't be afraid to change consultants! I've been through 4 of them because they didn't really encourage me in a way that was beneficial to me. People need to be encouraged or held accountable in different ways. When I got my new consultant, I told her exactly what I expected; I had a full monologue in which I explained that I didn't want to be criticized when I gained weight, and that when I told her I exercised more than the previous week she needed to act really excited because that is a major struggle for me. She does everything I need her to do to keep me going now. They want to help you, but because everyone is different, they don't always know how. Feel free to tell them exactly what you expect out of them and how they can help you reach your weight loss goals.
