Hi my name is Sherri and I am from the Chicago area. ( I posted this in the returning clients but I thought I would post it here too) I have been obese my whole life (I am 41 now) I started Jenny about 3 years ago, but then went through a divorce and just gave up over the years. I did lose 80 pounds in about a year ( a couple years ago) but then I gained it all back. I just gave up on myself and my life. BUT I decided to take control, well try to, and start Jenny again. This past Monday 9/13/10 was my first day back, and Tuesday the 21st will be my first weigh in. I havent been doing great since Monday but I am doing good, I can't wait to see how much I lose then that will jump start this and a lose will make me feel better. I have a long long long way to go, but it's just a total lifestyle change for me, I have 200+ pounds to lose. This is my first time in in this community area of the Jenny website.

Thanks for letting me post, I think this might help me just on here talking about what is going on and how I am doing because at least here you all understand.

Sherri

Welcome Sherri! There are a bunch of us here with a similar amount of weight to lose, and I know that it isn't always easy, but I am sure that we can all do this! I can't tell you how excited I am to be on the verge of 60 lbs. lost in 20 weeks... it is the best motivation to keep going. I hope you have a great first weigh-in, but even if you don't see the number you are hoping for don't stress too much, it will happen. Thanks for posting. -Cas.

Hi Sherry!

First let me say CONGRATULATIONS!! I say that because you have made the decision to take control of your life and that is a huge step. So many of us have problems losing the weight because we don't believe or don't know that we DO have the control to make our goals become reality!

I am glad that you know that you are not alone, as well. There are so many people out there in the same boat as you. The only difference is, you have the courage to come out and say it!

If I may, I have two suggestions I would like to offer you. Delete the word "obese" from your vocabulary. I hate that word. In my opinion, it is derogatory. I think it was made up by some skinny "know it all" who has never had to deal with what we have had to deal with for most of our lives. I like to think of myself as being temporarily overweight. Everyone has their own issues. Whether they be drug addicts, gamblers, alcoholics, kleptomaniacs, compulsive liars or whatever. We just happen to be addicted to eating unhealthy. But, with a solid program and support, we, like anyone else with an addiction, can overcome it and come out victorious.

And finally, surround yourself with only the positive. If there is anyone or anything in your life that doesn't fill you with positive reinforcement or encouragement... remove it from your life! Losing weight has never been easy, but, with the right people and programs in place, it can be made easier.

I pray for your strength and your success. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Thank you and way to go Cas on your 60 pounds lost (and in 20 weeks that's great). That is one thing I can not wait for. I have never been able to lose weight my whole life because I would always give up, but I know I can do it, because I did it before on Jenny, so I hope I can start again.

And thank you very much Rusalka, I hate the word obese also, but I didnt know what else to say, sorry I won't say it again. smile.gif

Lol!! No need to apologize. Just wanted to let you know that you don't have to let anyone categorize you. You are a person who has challenges like any other person.
