So lately I have been doing a lot of walking at home....with my Leslie Sansone DVD....I generally stick to 2-3 miles, but I have done 4 miles with her. Recently, I have thought about doing a 5 K. I researched for 5ks in my area and found a ton. I really don't want to do one in August b/c it is way too hot in North Texas. I found one for November, and I thought that should be pretty easy. I have a ton of time to prepare for it.

Today, I checked my work email for the first time in a while, and I saw that my school district is sponsoring a 5K walk in September. September is much earlier than November, but I really think I can do it... It will be a great opportunity. And, it is for a good cause. They are raising money for a foundation in honor of a young woman killed in an auto accident recently.

I think it's a fabulous goal to work towards - and for a good cause also. Go for it (and keep us posted!)

Thanks guys!!!! I know I can do it....I have walked a 5 K before....however, this time I am in better shape physically. (Granted, I do weigh more, but I am exercising regularly now.)

The 5K is scheduled for September 11. I think it is awesome that my school district is putting sunch an emphasis on Wellness.

I am happy to say that I did walk in the swimming pool for about 30 minutes today!!! AND I resisted the cup cakes someone brought to my training TWO days in a row!

Misty,

Of course you can do a 5k. Sounds like you do them all the time. Great that you are going to do one that has a good cause. It's a win/win.

So my first 5k is on Saturday. I am both excited and nervous about it. I know I can do it.....I just hope the weather cooperates. After all the rain we had this week, I know the ground is going to be muddy!!! According to the weather forcast, it will be very humid with a 20% chance of rain. The high for the day is only going to be 95degrees!!! At least it starts in the morning!

Misty,

I am so excited for you. Take the first mile slow and warm up well before the race. I know it sounds crazy given it will be 95 out. You are one tough cookie, I am such a wimp in the heat. Rememebr to get water as often as you can. Plus I read an article that said new runners actually can have better times in races if they walk part of the race. The logic being if they walk for a minute they will get their wind back faster and go faster the majority of the race. So especially in all that heat and humidity take it easy when you need to. I am so proud of you and you should be so proud of yourself. Let us know how it goes. Take care. YAY Misty! You rock!!!!
