Hello All,

I recently viewed Nicole Sullivan's JC commercial and am concerned about the message it sends...
While walking is good and exercise along with dieting, is ideal for weight loss, Ms Sullivan was also nursing (Yes?) while doing both of these things. When nursing, hundreds of calories are burned in addition to the calories burned with exercise and a Jenny diet.
With any diet program you should ALWAYS consult your doctor first - especially if you have just had a baby. Blood work as well as blood pressure/heart rate etc all need to be taken into account when beginning a diet/exercise program. With JC, there seems to be no mention of this. With heart disease being the #1 killer of women in the US more information is needed for each woman when taking on any plan of diet and exercise, especially when she has not done so before.
While I applaud the efforts of all those 'spokespersons', all of them need to discuss lifestyle change, diet, exercise as well as visiting your doctor for additional support. Without all those things in place, then JC is nothing more than a gimmick.
I am not trying to sound negative, but with obesity affecting more than half the population, there needs to be more done to inform 'customers' rather than eat and walk as Ms Sullivan suggests.

I respectfully disagree - I saw the commercial and though it was fabulous! The fact that diet and regular old exercise can lead to success was very encouraging. At 37, and otherwise in good health, I would be exceptionally resentful to have to get my Dr.'s "permission" to make a lifestyle change which will only be beneficial for my health. When I joined, I did have to answer some basic health questions which determined if I could just "join", or if I needed a doctor's note (certain conditions require one).

In the case of breastfeeding, this is from the FAQ page on the front page of this website:

"Q: Can I do the program if I'm breastfeeding?
A: Absolutely. Nursing mothers follow a modified calorie level based on the child's age and frequency of breastfeeding. In some cases, doctor approval is required. In the United States, breastfeeding mothers will need to get their doctor to recommend a vitamin supplement, as Jenny Craig supplements will not meet their needs"

I do agree that a certain subset of the population should have a doctor's evaluation prior to joining, but to make it mandatory in the case of otherwise healthy overweight people will just make many people less likely to join.

If we're looking to reduce the heart disease epidemic, reducing weight and adding regular activity is paramount to doing this. It was great to see a "celebrity" achieving her weight loss goal without the use of costly perks such as a personal trainer.

Just my 0.02...
