I would like to be accountable so I thought I would start a challenge. 4 wks of commitment. 5 days a week of exercise. Starting tomorrow July 11 and finishing August 7. You may chose any type of activity as long as you are up and moving. If you can only exercise for 5 mins because of health or weight that's great. Just post what you did for the day. We are here to encourage each other.
I can honestly say that I was a skinny minny. You know the girl that everyone envies. I had 2 TIA mini strokes, 2 years ago when I was the activly fit. 5'7" and 132 lbs. Since then I have gain 40 lbs. & can't deal with the weight gain. I used to be able to walk on the treadmill for an hour at 4mph. I can no longer do it at that speed or that long, only because I became unfit. I have no disablities from my TIAs, in the beginning I couldn't move my right side. From lack of exercise and all my meds I have gained this weight. Let's not forget all the junk food I eat.
So that's a little bit about me. Please introduce yourself

Olive

I would like to join your challenge. I was walking on my treadmill for the past 3 months. I recently joined the gym and started zumba classes 3x a week and weight training. I need to keep it up to tone up.

Hi

My name is Martha and I have been with jc for 3 1/2 yrs. Have lost up to 125 lbs but now sit at 97 lbs lost. Very discouraging but I know it is within my power to claim this again and get off my butt!
So, I join this challenge of 5 days of exercise. I commit to it! I HAVE to do this for ME.
My exercise is walking with Leslie Sansone DVD's. I have a very difficult time doing it on my own in my house but I can and I will do it.
I started at 429 lbs and right now my goal is just to get below the 300 lb mark. Avoiding exercise will not get me there. I can't set a different weight goal until I reach this one and it has been way to long since I have seen a consistant drop in lbs.
So..I am going to join you but I start TODAY! First, making sure nothing in my home is off program. 2nd..sticking in that dvd and doing a 2 mi walk right now.
Thanks for motivating me to accept a challenge. You will be hearing from me!!

Be Blessed.
Martha

I'd definitely like to join this challenge also! I started yesterday by doing the dvd workout with Valerie Bertinelli. I'm on the beginner's section, which is about 20 minutes long, but hoping I'll get up to the next 40 minute level in a few weeks. I definitely recommend this dvd to everyone. It's not hard to too and really gets you into exercising in increments.

Good luck all!

I did my 2 miles with Leslie just as I said. I am 2 miles closer to reaching my 10 mile goal for this week. It feels good to be looking forward and not back.
Welcome to all of us!!

Be Blessed

Count me in. If I actually do this (5 days a week for 4 weeks) I will feel I have turned a major corner. It makes me so mad to think that 10 years ago I was doing triathlons and 5k's and 10k's, even the Chicago marathon. For no reason at all, I just got lazy and let myself go and could not begin to imagine running to the end of my street right now, let alone in a 5k.

First step, get off this computer and walk the 10 steps to the next room, pop in The Firm Upper Body and start sculpting those arms. Yes, I know I'm showing my age, but honestly, I just love those old Firm videos (not even dvd's) for weight training. If anyone wants to recommend more current exercise dvd's, ones with more emphasis on dumbell work than bouncing around work, which I'm too uncoordinated to do, I'd love to hear it.

See you in 40 minutes :-)

Welcome Pam and Clover. Always goes better with support although I sure would like us to be doing this in the same room and rooting each other on in person!
Pam..I do the walking dvd's with Leslie Sansone. I had not exercised for the majority of my life and I am now 58yrs old. Coordination is not needed if you can march in place, do small kick, knee lifts and just that! In the more advanced ones she adds weights but doesn't do a ton with them. However, if you are comfortable using them they could work with any of her dvd's. Even though you don't have to leave your house to do these it works you out better then a walk would outside. If you can,,,try one and see if you like it.

Good luck!
Martha

Did it - got that 35 minute upper body workout done. Tons of push ups - one day I want to do just one push up on my feet, not my knees! Now here's a question for the group. I didn't realize how late it got and I haven't eaten dinner yet. And I just exercised, so I'm not hungry. But skipping meals is not good when you're at the 1200 cal level. What to do, what to do. It's just teriyaki salmon tonight, so that's light. And a big glass of water.

Would love to hear from you all since we're all now fitness mavens and need to consider new problems like this ;-) (also, could use the help of posting those cute little happy faces down there on the page to up here!)

Thanks Martha. I hate to show my ignorance, but where do you even find her dvds? Target/Walmart? My vast videotape (ha!) collection of The Firm videos are all from ebay. I did the unthinkable and paid full retail for a new yoga dvd last week because the cover made it sound perfect for what I was looking for. But 5 minutes into it I could tell it doesn't appeal to me, even though working through it in full will be my goal for tomorrow. That's why I like the deals you get from ebay - unless I'm pleasantly surprised tomorrow, I'll be putting this one on ebay and getting a fraction of my $ back.

I hear you loud and clear about the yoga dvd. I just can't make my body work the way they do on the screen.
I get a lot of my dvd's online at Barnes and Noble. I have a discount card there plus I order many times at 3am (insomnia). I would think that Leslie Sansone would be at any store with lots of exercise dvd's. Sitting aerobics would be harder to find but I would think going into a full sized bookstore or dvd/cd store would have something like that. Really do recommend Leslie because you can go on whatever pace works for you and she has exercise from 1-4 miles.
Have fun searching.

Be Blessed.

Good Morning everyone!

I dragged myself out of bed at 5am, and went to the gym, lol. biggrin.gif

Day 1:
Cardio: 30min- elliptical machine
Strength: 20min- upper body and abs

Pam- you did the right thing by eating. I was always taught that you need to eat within 45min post workout. And salmon is healthy, so way to go!

Time for a nap, lol...just kidding! Time for some house work

I recently read a study that stated no weight was added by eating late in the evening. Even if just before bed. I ate at 10pm last night just so I could get my 3rd meal in. My problem..I didn't sleep well with a full tummy. Therefore, I would probably schoose lighter fare next time but I would still eat if I had just exercised. They body needs the proteins!

I think I read that recently too. I'm thinking it was either in the JC materials (which I just love btw) or somewhere on the website. Anyway, at 10:30 last night the tummy gave a little rumble, so I had my teriyaki salmon (didn't bother volumizing!) and I saw that I still had a yogurt on my meal plan that I was supposed to eat. Well-ll, the 110 calorie Weight Watcher jumbo frozen fudge bar, whose first two ingredients were non-fat milk and milk, sounded like just the way to cap off the night, so that was my milk exchange. Not sure the dietician would agree, but it was perfect for the moment.

Martha, reading your story, I am so amazed at you! You've lost 100 pounds by doing it the slow patient way by eating good food and exercising. Regardless of how much you have left, what a feat! And I'm sure these boards have been a big part of your success, because I can already see that you are such a friend to all. Thank you for being a part of our little group here.

Melissa, you're another success story and that third picture of you with that big, beautiful smile, says it all. You too are an inspiration to all of us.

Got a busy day of house cleaning and grooming the dog . Can you believe Petsmart wanted $65 last week to bathe my 35 pound border collie mix?? I'm taking him to U-Sampooch and will do it myself for $10 instead. Good exercise too! Today's workout will be yoga and stretching in the evening in prep for my early mornng bike ride to work tomorrow.
