Raina,

Way to go! You should have done 1.1 more miles and you would had had half a marathon in. Good idea to take the bars with you. I remember running 12 miles and being so hungry at the end I was shaky.

It's seeming cool enough tonight that I may actually go for a walk before work in the morning, just 3 miles. Yippee! Can't wait for Sunday, WI, then long walk maybe 8 miles then get the kayak wet for the first time.

Where do you get salt sticks? and the other bar you mentioned?

have a good weekend.

Nancy

I am addicted to Road Runner Sports (www.roadrunnersports.com) and am a VIP. So I buy my GU in the 6 packs and my favorite is Chocolate Outrage and Chocolate Mint, but they have a wide variety of flavors. There is also Powerbar gels, Hammer gels, etc. all of which are very similar but I have found that Powerbar upsets my stomach and Hammer gels don't taste as good to me. I also order the SaltStick from there as well.

I use the gels for the carbohydrates and caffeine (although the mint flavor is caffeine free) (they run about 100 calories a pack) and the salt in the summer for the electrolytes, sodium, and potassium to keep from cramping up. I don't like the taste of Gatorade (which is due to the fact that since I have Ulcerative Colitis and have had more than a few colonoscopies I have to mix Miralax and Gatorade and chug it for the prep so it brings back memories every time I drink it) so I only run with water...hence the need to supplement.

Since it is pouring down rain today I am going to get creative and use the stairs here at work. I work on the third floor so I figure two 10 minute breaks of going up and down stairs should be a pretty good workout to break up my day (and not make me too sweaty in my business clothes). I did 3.5 miles on the treadmill and 3 miles on the bike this morning at the gym.

Finally did get the kayak in the water this weekend, went to a lake near by us. We had a great time and a great workout for my arms. We took the dog along, she was in my DH's kayak, she was great, like she'd been doing this forever. I also went for a 2 mile walk at race speed for me, slow for other people. But it was a good workout. Monday was a planned day off.

Lately I have not been able to get rid of the dehydration headaches. I drink alot but I'm thinking it's just catching up with me. I was still wiped out today, my coworkers are feeling the same way. Between the heat and all the hours outdoors at work it's taking it's toll on the staff. Plus my workouts on top of that. Maybe tomorrow I'll go walking at the mall, it's suppose to pour rain and even more thunderstorms.

Raina, thanks for the information on roadrunnersports.com. Great job planning your workouts, how did the stairs work out.

I think I'll be heading to bed early to catch up on some rest.

Mudrun? No but it sounds fun to a gardener like me. Plus my DH says he doesn't want to do the little biathlon with me in Aug. He's doing a really big fund raiser the weekend before and it's 3 days, he'll be exhausted by the race. Plus he intends to tap out all his resouces for fundraising for that weekend. Anyway, Edorice tell me more about the mudruns.
Plus I tried to PM but not totally sure how, so I don't know if it went through.

I just got back from a two week conference and I'm glad to be back. I managed to get a lot of my exercise in and I even packed JC meals but I did end up eating quite a few meals out so I'm pretty sure the weigh in this week is going to be a break even.

As far as mud runs my sister is a fan of the Warrior Dash and does it every year. She loves it. While I love playing in mud and will even run in the rain and mud I don't do the obstacle course well....I'm always nervous I'm going to twist an ankle or a knee or something since I'm clumsy. However, my sister and I were thinking about doing Muddy Buddy (which is a bike, run, bike, run).

Hi Raina,

Glad you had a good trip and were able to keep up your exercise. Coming out even after 2 weeks away is pretty good. I am only down 1lb this week since my excercise is down. It has been hot and very humid, to the point where I've been nauceous. So I cut back on the walks. I'm also having some insomnia, I think it's due to being old.

I tried to check out mud runs in New England but up here they all have to do with, Monster Trucks. Good thing we don't have red necks in New England. tongue.gif Guess if I want to do a mud run I'll have to travel.

Can't wait till later today, front is coming in to take away the humidity. I finally get another nice walk in. By later in the week it sounds like the heat will finally depart. YAY!

I also think that even though it feels like I drink alot I need to track it better and drink more. Have a good week.

I hate coming back to work and finding 100+ emails in my inbox and having no motivation to actually read through them all. smile.gif

So far in training my longest run was 14.5 miles last weekend. I was supposed to run 16 yesterday, but I took this weekend off to just relax and spend time with my husband.

I'm lucky that I haven't had any major issues other than some minor aches and pains. Hopefully everyone's training is going well. I find that I have some trouble sleeping if I workout at night, which is why I workout almost exclusively in the AM. I dislike getting up early, but I feel so accomplished knowing that my exercise is done for the day.

Well, enough time has been wasted. I have to get back to those emails.

The heat is killing me. I ran 16 miles today and around mile 5 I was just so overheated I had to stop and walk for several miles. I run with a camelbak and try to make sure that I hydrate well, but I definitely think it is important that I recognized the signs of early heat stroke....which was the fact that I had a headache and I was no longer sweating, despite the heat.

I ended up finishing the workout but luckily I was close enough to my house around mile 5 that I ran in and got some ice and put it in my sports bra (great suggestion) and refilled my water supply and enjoyed the air conditioning for a few minutes. It took me over 20 minutes for that mile, but it was well worth it....it took everything I had to get back out the door, but I'm glad I did.

I rewarded myself with a glass of chocolate milk and a banana and took a nap afterwards.

Raina,

OMG be careful out there in the heat. Glad the ice in the bra trick worked for you. It is pretty funny to do but it really cools you down fast. I feel like such a slacker walking 5 miles in the 70's. I'm off this week and will try to get in about 40 miles total. Plus alot of gardening. We're suppose to have pretty good temps the first part of the week. Second half I'll resort to walking really early and ice in the bra. My Dh bought me a scarf that I soak in water that has soil moist crystals in it. I find in order for it to keep me cool that it sort of throws off my posture. I'm hoping to walk 8 - 10 mi on Tues. I'll go on livestrong to plan and log my route. Take care and stay cool, glad your ok.
