Hello!

This is my last gasp for help before I quit. I am VERY frustrated by the lack of vegetarian food! I was on Jenny a few years ago, and while choices were limited, I never had to eat the same thing twice in one week. That is SO not true now.

4 Vegetarian lunches, and of those 4, 2 are pizza! In fact, the pesto pizza and the personal pizza are the exact same thing, just the sauce is different. Same card-board consistency crust, same faux cheese that has completely fallen off and has to be reassembled, same 2 or 3 tomato pieces.

I have been eating lunch out a lot, only to get yelled at by my Jenny counselor that I need to "suck it up and just eat the Jenny food".

I can't do this anymore. How are others making it work? I am SO sick of the pizza, I never liked the cheesey enchilada in the first place, and I am just ready to chuck the whole thing.

I am deeply, deeply disappointed at the lack of food and the fact that no one at Jenny seems to care that the choices are so limited. If you're thinking of joining, and are a vegetarian, DON'T DO IT!!

I'm so sorry you're having such a tough time. As a fellow Veg I feel some of your pain. This is my second time on program too and I must admit it is a lot harder this time. I am shocked that your counselor spoke to you that way! It is UNEXCUSABLE!! I have never had a problem with either of mine, and my first counselor, who was a professional caterer used to give me tips and recepies to 'replace' the JC food. Her son was a Veg and she used to make recepies for him that were healthy...then lucky me, she passed them on. I hope you can stick with it, but if the program doesn't fit, it is perfectly understandable to look for something better. And BTW...I'm with you on the pizzas...they're horrible!

It's to bad that JC doesn't have more vegetarian foods. I am not a vegetarian but I do enjoy a vegetarian meal from time to time. Meat eaters can eat anything while vegetarians are more restricted which isn't fair. I would love to purchase tofu based products or more vegetarian products from JC just to have more variety for myself and for the fact that vegetarian food is also really really tasty!

Ooooh, add me to the list of those who'd love more veg/tofu products from JC! I'm a veg and just started the program yesterday, so I'm still feeling good about the food options so far, but here's to hoping that trend continues! smile.gif

I definitely hear you. I got really annoyed after having to explain to my counselor why the Zesty Tortellini soup was not, in fact, vegetarian. Like other people, I can't believe your counselor told you that. That's awful! I'm starting to just subsist on the broccoli cheese potatoes, which I do really love, but I know I can't live off them forever. Like you, I don't like the cheesey enchilada either, but I've been using one of my Limited servings to put some low fat cheese on it and then been doctoring it up with a squeeze of lime and some salsa, which makes it very edible.

It really doesn't seem fair that we only have 4 lunch options, so I'm really really hoping Jenny does something about that. Maybe that quesadilla they promised us for May will come along soon??

I used to be a vegetarian in college. I am not now, but I also wish there were more vegetarian options. If they can do frozen eggs, they can do tofu, come on!

I don't think I could do JC and still be a vegetarian, with their small selection. Before you quit - ask your JCC if you can substitute some frozen Amy's meals for some of the JC food. Their stuff is really good. It has higher calories, but maybe you could work out more, or skip your fruit those days.

Good luck!

First off, if your JCC talked to you that way, ask for another one.

Does JC have vegetarian cookbooks? Ask to alternate days of eating the pre-packaged food and meals from the cookbook. It may even save you money!

Good luck!

I totally agree. Several years ago I went on the program and lost 75 lbs I was very thorough and followed the program and exercised. There were at least three different weekly menus for vegetarians. I loved the veggie burger.I am not a pure vegetarian and thus probably ate a few things that although did not have meat had some trace . In the last few years, I have tried several times to get back on the program. Each time the selection of vegetarian foods has decreased. and I find the choices so boring that I give up and start eating all my desserts.
I can't understand. Since there are so many more people who are vegetarians now then there were when I started the program years ago why they don't have better and more choices.
There are several suggestions on how to change some of their foods but
If I have to spend time reinventing their food I might as well start from scratch and make my own.

I don't know if this would help you or not, but what I did was eat many of the veggie dinners for lunch as well. I couldn't stand the pizza or the potato, so it didn't leave me a lot of lunch options! My JC consultant was more than willing to sell me more dinners (I think they are more expensive!) and it worked just fine for me that way.

Thanks so much for the heads up. I lived in times already when it was hard to eat veggie. It isn't any longer, and it is such FREEDOM. Now to have to go thru that again via Jenny Craig, that ignorance, that mindset, that trying to fit us into their molds and difficult to find food is unacceptable. I am no longer the square peg in the round hole and won't try to be their limitations. Been there dun that. This is the 21st century!

Again, thanks for the heads up.

I am a vegan and on the 5th week, lost 17 lbs. From the very start my counslr knows that I do lot of meals on my own. I make a hummus wrap with lots of grilled veggies in it for lunch. I make tofu kababs on grill in some tandoori spices, with brown rice make chinese fried rice. You can eat Subway veggie patti sandwich, I love it!!!

I take their penne pasta and add fresh cherry tomaotes and some fat free Feta. I take the tomato soup and add a can of artichoke in it. I take the pesto pizza and remove some of the cheese add low fat blue cheese.

I wish they have more choices but I like the weight loss. smile.gif

JC executives need to take a look at future trends and take advice from the U.N.:

Friday, June 4, 2010 - 12:06 pm ET The United Nations Wants You to Be Vegetarian By: Briana Rognlin

" Becoming vegetarian might be just as good for the environment as not driving your car, according to a report from United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) international panel of sustainable resource management. The report, which was released on Wednesday, states that “Animal products cause more damage than [producing] construction minerals such as sand or cement, plastics or metals. Biomass and crops for animals are as damaging as [burning] fossil fuels.”

The combination of high worldwide meat consumption and projected population growth The report also says: make the impact of animal products especially worrisome, making a serious shift in meat consumption especially urgent. “Impacts from agriculture are expected to increase substantially due to population growth increasing consumption of animal products. Unlike fossil fuels, it is difficult to look for alternatives: people have to eat. A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change, away from animal products.”

Though the U.N. promotes things like Meatless Monday to reduce carbon emissions, it seems that skipping meat just once or twice a week isn’t going to do the trick. It’s tough to imagine a life without ice cream, cheese, and burgers, but the U.N.’s report makes us think twice about our diet.

Would you be willing to cut out meat and dairy to help the environment?"
