I think back on my Twenties and Thirties and how quickly I lost weight with or without exercise!!! Ah, those were the days. That was a younger metabolism, I guess! Now, I'm almost 64...and not a jogger, but I do power walking and can keep up with Leslie Sansone walk tapes or DVDs and give them my all, but I don't have it in me to do three miles a day at an extremely fast speed. But I don't lolly-gag either!!! I do push myself. However, within my limitations, I think my weight loss suffers--but this seems to be what my body will do. I also do resistance weights for my arms. Anybody out there exercising within age or health limitations and still being successful at losing weight? Believe me, I dont' make excuses--I know it is important to exercise--but I'm not able to do extended power aerobics like a younger person!!!! What do you do and how successful are you? smile.gif

Well I NEVER thought I would EVER say I "sorta" am liking this exercise thing! I am 62 and do water aerobics 3 times a week. When my kids saw I was trying so hard to be successful with Jennie Craig they chipped in and bought me a Wii and Wii Fit Plus. OMG I love it and actually exercise nearly 45 - 60 minutes EVERY day. I have since purchased Walk It Out, EA Sports, Biggest Loser and a dance thing. It is so much fun you don't realize it is good for you! I highly recommend the Wii. Oh, I have bad knees and so far no problem. I started Jennie June 1 and so far have lost 22 lbs! Feel soooooo much better. Have about 40 more lbs to lose, can you imagine how great that will feel. My kids are so proud of me and notice I have so much more energy! Give Wii a try.

In 3 weeks, I'll be 68. There is no way I am going to have results unless I do everything...diet, 8 glasses of water a day, and exercise. I try to stick to 4 days a week in the gym but have been ending up doing 3. Each time I go in, I do cardio and cross-train...elliptical one day, treadmill another, and bike another. Then start over. On non-weight training days I do 45 min, on weight training days I do 30 min. I aim for a target heart rate of 124 - 132. The fitter I get, the harder I have to work to get there. A lot of days, I don't get beyond 117 until the last 5 min when I'm getting tired. According to the "age chart" my cardio target should be 104. That's ridiculous...for me that's like a stroll and I'll get no results. I break a sweat and that's with a fan blowing in my face the whole time. I've downloaded 101 Workout Hits onto my ipod nano and covered my ears with headphones so no outside noise breaks my concentration. I am NOT in the gym to carry on a leisurely conversation! I am on fixed retirement pension and the credit card balance is going up, up, up so I mean to make it worth my while. I am on this diet primarily to treat my high blood pressure which I cannot take meds for...too many horrid side effects to them all. I was starting to test pre-diabetic besides though not anymore.

Since July 12 I've lost 30.8 pounds. I have 34 more to go.

Hi, I've had so many cases of tendonitis in my arms and elbows and knees that about all I do for exercise is swim and do alot of walking. I'm not sixy yet but I know my metabolism has changed. If I loose one pound a week, I'm doing great. But I try to look at it as a change in life style and not think about the present too much.
Even if it means buying a size bigger temporairily so that my clothes are comfoatable. Part of it is just accepting myself the way I am, but still haveing a goal to loose weitht.
good luck

If you have an interest in working out with a group, check out a Zumba Gold class. That is the class geared toward adults who are getting back into exercise, who may have limited range of motion, or who would just like a little slower paced fitness class. I teach classes, and I CONSTANTLY have students tell me how much they've lost, how they are getting into smaller clothes sizes, how they are regaining stamina, increasing range of motion, and even getting healthy enough to get off meds.

If you don't want to work within a group, I would check into the Wii or Connect games, as mentioned. However, if I don't get out to exercise, I find all kinds of excuses to do other things, just me... Keep up the good work and don't give up!
50+ pound weight loss and into maintenance. It's been an exciting road and well worth the effort.

Here's to weight loss and a new life!

Update: Since I last posted here, I've increased my cardio time from 45 to 60 min on non-weight training days and 45 min on weight training days. I've increased my weight sets from 3 to 4 per excercise on a pyramid full body program. I go to the gym 5 days a week. I've also increased my water to 9 glasses a day. I am now so fit cardio wise that it is harder and harder to get my heart rate up. Bike is beginning to be at level 11, elliptical level 4, and treadmill at 5 incline and 3.6 speed. I broke my ankle in 3 places in '87 so I have no flexibility in it and can't run. Can't do effective lunges and squats because my left heel won't stay on the ground as I go down. I have arthritis but have long since discovered that if I work through the pain it goes away as I "get the juices flowing." God has been very kind to me healthwise. I think I still have high blood pressure though. I'm 68, have lost 42 pounds since starting Jenny on July 15th and have 22 pounds more to go. My body is getting more and more stubbon and that post-menopausal midriff does NOT want to give up so my size 12s won't fit yet. Back in the 90s, at this weight I would be getting into my 10s. They're packed in boxes and waiting for me if I ever do again....

Wow you are amazing! I am only 51 and I am so limited. I suffer severe vertigo and tremor. The discs in my neck are wearing thin do the the tremor. I can't do much exercise with my arms do to extreme pain in the neck. I just do what I am capable of doing. I hit the treadmill for a half our a day..I am at 2 speed and 2 incline. That is about the best I can do because of the vertigo. I hit the recumbent bike and peddle away until the dizziness passes from the treadmill and vertigo. I wish I could do half of what you do! Keep it up!
