next week will be 2 months since i joined, and i'm not even down 10 pounds. sad.gif i started at 150, and i'm fluxuating now between 143 and 142! of course i've cheated, but not every day....probably one splurge meal a week (for example, rice with steamed mussels, shrimp, clams and 2 pieces of bread). but i exercise frequently (about 4 times a week) and drink plenty of water. i know i need to cut out that 1 cheat meal.....any other ideas?

Maggie,

One thing that I can think of is that with your workouts, change it up all the time so that your body doesn't get stuck in a rut. For example, when I go to the gym to work out, each time I go, I change up the resistance training by doing different machines and also do different machines there for cardio (one time, do eliptical and stair climber, another time do bike and treadmill while alternating running and walking for a certain period of time). Also, I do walking 6-7x a week as well in alternation with the gym and the Valerie Bertinelli Losing It DVD or other JC tools (Tricord, Toning Ball Kit). I have posted my JC Before and halfway photos for you to see.

Remember, a splurge once a week is equal to 250 calories as you probably been told by your JCC. I would on your next consultation ask your JCC for a list of splurges that are equal to 250 calories and it will tell you from each item on the list what activity to do and how long it will take for you to burn that off (times are based on a person that is 200lbs, but they can probably help give you an approximate time how long it will take you to burn the splurge you choose).

Don't forget too to utilize your Free and 3 Limited Free Foods each day and use those first as needed.

I hope that helps.

Julianna

JC Weight Loss Tracking:

Thoughts to Keep in Mind:

Change is the essence of life.

Be willing to surrender what you are.....for what you could become.

It takes longer to lose weight than to gain.
A little weight loss is as great as big loss
.
There may be weeks your weight may go up a little bit,
but don't get discouraged because even though your weight may be up
one week, you may still be losing inches and gaining muscle.

Your weight is only a number. The changes you see overall physically and
mentally are the things that truly matter the most. Don't get fixated on
your weight number.
In other words, your weight isn't the only measure of your success. Put away the scale and you may just see how far you've
really come
.

Keep in mind that each week is different.

Don't stop & stick with it.

"You deserve your fullest life back. You deserve to be able to breathe deeply.
You deserve to be able to walk as far and as fast as you want to walk —
and to run if you wish. You deserve to be able to buy clothing from any
store you walk into. You deserve quality foods to serve yourself — fresh,
filled with flavors and nutrients and textures and color. You deserve to be
proud of who you are — to revel in your strength of mind, body and
character. You deserve to walk the streets and beaches feeling eyes
on you and knowing you look strong and healthy. You are doing something
that many, many people believe they cannot do or flat-out will not do.

I will repeat that….

You're doing something that many, many people believe
they cannot or flat-out will not do.

I think the key is REALLY doing the program for a while, and then doing PLANNED meals on your own (rather than unplanned cheats). Do you write down everything you eat? I have found it is a real eye opener.
Juliana: WOW! What amazing before and during pictures! You clearly really know how to do it right-

Doing the program is what the program is all about. You really do need to stay with the menu and try not to do those "splurges" . You should talk to your JCC about why you are veering off on the splurges.

I have been on 2 months and am down 16 pounds --- I am under extreme stress and every week I say "Oh I didn't lose this week" but I did! Even a half pound is a victory for me. I refuse, refuse, refuse to go backwards! But that is just me. My personal goal is to shop at Coldwater Creek and I keep the catalogs around to remind me where I want to be.

Every once in a while we go out to eat but I try very hard (even though my JCC says it is too early for me to break out on my own, this IS the real world) to make good choices. So far I have done well.

I used to be an ice cream addict -- and I haven't even wanted any! So you CAN do it if you just hang in there and let your JCC help you evaluate what you are doing.
If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you always got!

I had a hard time accepting that the loss will be slow at first but now I am at peace with it! I am learning so much in the process as well as establishing better habits that will stick with me in the long run. I am afraid that if my weight was all gone tomorrow, I would just go back to the way I was before because I didn't have a good plan and new habits in place to prevent it. I know that the 1-2 lbs per week intention of JC is so the loss is healthy, but it also gives you time to learn as well.
Try to embrace the journey and hopefully you can afford to do it for as long as it takes you to get to goal. Speaking of $$, I try to remember that the plan is too expensive to stray from. Your occassional cheat may be sabotaging your efforts. Try a week completely on plan and see if there is any difference in your results.

Excellently put Carie! For me, when I started THIS time, I decided that I was going to learn to change the way I looked at food and eating. (I did JC back in the 80's when it was first popular and lost 40 pounds) -- a lot of bad habits developed since then as well as a lot of health problems. And I "finally" heard all the words of advice that have been handed to me over the years.

Some things I think really helped me and perhaps can help others (besides reading the material) :

1. Pick a goal. Something you really really want. I am going on a cruise in September but it is with a group of girls so that in itself was not motivation. I found my motivation in the Coldwater Creek catalog (as silly as it may sound). I really want to wear those clothes and not have bulges everywhere.

2. Be realistic about what YOU can accomplish. Accept the fact that what you have been doing in the past has not worked and that you are going to have to change your lifestyle. Really give some thought to what you can and can not adjust to and then develop your own "self talk" to help you through it. For me, I love ice cream. My oh my how I love ice cream. But everytime I think about it, I look at my catalog and somehow I just know that it won't taste so good. I am also teaching myself to be satisfied with one bite of someones special desert and convince myself that one bite is as good as the whole thing would be. I set myself a measure. I know that I will have "won" when I can eat one of the JC cheesecakes or cakes and not want to eat another. I am already able to say "no" when offered one instead of another snack! Yea!

3. Find a distraction. Perhaps start a new hobby. I love to make jewelery with wire and clay and I love to sew. I love to garden and on these pretty days, I have taken cuttings of just about every plant in our yard! I am getting ready to move to a house in the country and I want to start a lot of new plants. Basically, I stay very busy and don't really think about food.

The key to it all I think is to be honest about what works for you. And there is certainly the money aspect. This program is very expensive (worth it but expensive) --- I can not afford to be on it any longer than I have to and I don't want to have to repeat! I know there will come a time I will get stuck and hit a plateau -- it is inevitable when you have 70 pounds to lose but I plan to be ready when that time comes and figure out a way to get over it. Me and my JCC are a winning team!

Hope this helps someone.

Looks to me like your weight loss is right on track. I'm not sure why you are disappointed. Not to be too blunt, but where did you think you would be at this point? If you are looking to lose weight quickly, there is no such thing. Even people who have had gastric bypass surgery can end up gaining all the weight back because the "new" stomach will just stretch back out. Stay on plan without cheating and then see where you are in 6 months to a year. That's how long the program will take if you need to lose 50 pounds (1 pound a week for 52 weeks = 52 pounds!). Why not hold off on the cheats and add in whatever you want when you have more control? I'm giving up alcohol for a year because 1) they are empty calories, 2) to deal with stress in different ways, and 3) to see if I can do it! Give yourself a year.
Week 1: -4
Week 2: -2.4
Week 3: -2
Week 4: -0
Week 5: -2.2
Week 6: -1.6
Week 7: -1.6

Goal: -13.8/70 (19% of goal completed!)
Weight loss average: 1.98 pounds/week

Hang in there......one pound at at time....Dont be too hard on yourself, we will always have the challenges that we are faced. I decided to put myself first, pay for the program even though its financially tough right now and get as healthy as I can......For these reasons, you can do it!

If you get hungry, call someone, make a fruit smoothie (it works for me and fills me up).....or go for a walk...
Hang in there.....You are doing awesome!!!

Gemgirl.....on the way to getting it off for good!!!

I think you have to remember, you do not have that much to lose. 7 pounds from 150 is almost 5% of your overall body weight. That is awesome. You have lost almost 5%. Great job. I think it is really hard when the numbers aren't going the way you thought they would, but you are doing this for the long term. I thought given how heavy I am (now 236.4) and how much I work out that I would lose 2-3 pounds/week. I am averaging 1.6.

We just have to be patient.

Hang in there.
