I am glad that I found a group that can relate. I am excited to see some good weight losses. It is hard to relate to my friends who are trying to lose 20 lbs. I went to the Jenny centre today and they said I should be on a 2000 calorie diet. My doc wants me on a 1400 calorie plan. What are you all on? Anyway, I look forward to meeting everyone on the forum.

Hi Connert518,

Welcome to JC. I know how it can be when people talk about they are fat and need to lose 5 pounds! In this forum I found a lot of comfort with knowing that there were others who actually had SERIOUS weight to lose. Not to minimize other smaller weight loss goals, but it is a whole different challenge at 200+ pounds to lose.

I am currently doing the 1700 calorie diet. I'm not sure what your previous eating habits were and for what reasons your doctor wants you on a 1400 calorie diet, but I would recommend you take a copy of your JC menu and the nutritional facts and go over it with your doctor. It's 2000 calories of healthy meals, but because of our size, there may be health problems that require even stricter calorie requirements. When I started JC, I was told that I needed to get permission from my doctor if I wanted to continue on to the 2nd week. I'm not sure if you would need the same since I was over 400 pounds when I started, but it would be good to be safer than sorry.

Find out the reasons why the doctor wants you to be on the 1400 calorie diet. Is it because you cannot exercise but need to lose weight? Do you need a no/low sodium diet to lower blood pressure? Communicating with your doctor and JC would definitely help you get your answers. But if your doctors are curious about if JC works... Yes it does. One of the doctors I met with (not my primary physician) did not really believe I would lose the weight and keep it off. He even told me of a story of a co-worker who had lost 50 pounds and gained it all back and more. Let's just say, he was not the most encouraging. I actually use that situation as more motivation to work harder to prove him wrong. I am planning to come back to that doctor and show him that I lost 55 pounds already and will keep going. I hope everything works out well for you and good luck no matter what happens.

Hi Rocky,

I do need to lower my blood pressure. I think that my doc would be open to 1700 calories if I was able to show her that I can lose. I am really pleased with the taste of my first day of food. I am a picky eater, so that is half the battle for me. I really need to be careful with exercise due to a hernia. I am thinking about swimming after I get a few lbs off. I hope to have follow in your footsteps. You have been really sucessful since starting! Thanks for the post. I really need the support, especially to stick with it in the beginning.

Thanks Again!

Tammy

Overtime you will be able to figure out what foods you do and do not like if you are really picky about your food. If you have a hernia, yes, be careful about what exercises you do. You don't have to do a complete 180 with your exercise your first week. It is a process and when you begin losing the weight, physical activity will just start getting easier. I think swimming sounds like a great idea because it's great exercises for those with injuries.

I'm so happy for you to get started. I think you'll be pleased with it as you continue. Keep us posted on your progress and feel free to come to the forums for any questions or concerns you have. Good luck!

Congrats on joining up!

I truthfully think your doctor might be giving you some very questionable advice! If you suddenly drop to a 1400 calorie diet you will be raging hungry and your body will likely go into starvation mode! I need to drop 205 pounds....my first goal is 20, then 50, then 75, then 100 pounds and we'll go from there!

I've been doing the 2000 calorie diet and I have lost 18 pounds in three weeks! It works, trust JC and convince your doctor that you need to try it!

Wow Melissa! 18 lbs in 3 weeks sounds like a dream. I am too hungry on the 1400 calories. I am going to add some calories. I have to admit, I really like the food. I went out today and shopped for groceries to add. My kids keep trying to eat my dinners, so the food must be good. LOL Thanks for the support. I plan to hang around for a yr or so. rolleyes.gif
