I'm done with my second day! So far so good. I cheated a little bit yesterday and had a Reese's Peanut butter cup but it was only 40 calories so I didn't feel too bad. I've been having some pretty bad headaches though, as my body gets used to the lack of caffeine and sugar. What can I do to curb this? I'm pretty sure it's a lack of caffeine so can I drink like diet soda to curb this? I'd only need one day in the latter part of the evening, cause that's when the headaches strike. Oh and by the way, I LOVED the pot roast. It was so good and hearty on such a cold day! YUM YUM YUM!

Feel free to cut down on caffeine gradually. Going cold turkey is not a good idea. It was no problem going from a 3 or more Diet Coke per day habit to one per day. Now, as long as I have about 1/2 a Diet Coke, or even a cup of hot tea, once every 24 hours or so, I get no withdrawal symptoms. I'll gradually whittle this down, but it's OK to take your time. Just keep working at it, and drink an extra glass of water for every caffeinated drink you have.

Hello all! Not only is this my first time with JC but my first time in a chat room. I started JC a week ago. I have not had my weigh in yet. I have enjoyed the food, but do not feel like I am losing anything. I feel like I am eating too much and it is going to back fire. I am so used to "diets" not working.

PLEASE step away from the scale!

The headaches aren't unusual. It's your body adjusting to the different foods, lack of sugar, etc.

They WILL go away. It just may take a couple of days but lots of water will help.

But the other problem is this, when you get frustrated after TWO days of checking the scale and not seeing it moving, then you get tense. And what do you get when you get tense? HEADACHES! :(

The other thing that happens with stress is the release of cortisol which also can cause headaches, weight gain, etc. so you're not doing yourself any favors by checking the scale.

Stick to the plan, drink your water - LOTS OF WATER - take some Tylenol if you want and the headaches will go away and so will the weight. :)

But seriously step away from the scale. I KNOW that's hard to do but I also know you're not doing yourself any favors and you deserve to treat yourself better than that. :)

Hang in there. It WILL get better..soon. :)

I will never give up my caffeinated beverages. I've been drinking them for over forty years now and have always done so, through thick and thin, no pun intended.
Yes, giving up caffeine can lead to headaches but so can some of the additives that are present in some JC foods. MSG (and many other substances that are merely MSG hiding behind other names) are notorious culprits where headaches are concerned. Beware of MSG, yeast extracts, autolyzed yeast protein...the list goes on and on.
Here's a big list:

http://www.truthinla...densources.html

I became more and more sensitive to MSG as I grew older and now I try to avoid it altogether. Avoiding it has made a big difference in how I feel and especially how I retain fluids (which can also lead to headaches). Can't say whether or not this will matter to you but thought I'd toss my two cents in. :)
ITA with the advice to ease off caffeine slowly if you feel you must. Going cold turkey isn't necessary, IMHO. Go ahead and enjoy your cup of coffee or can of diet Coke, for heaven's sakes. None of us got fat on coffee or diet sodas.
Of course we check the scale on a daily basis, LOL, especially at first. We want to see RESULTS!!!! Two days of stress isn't likely to send your cortisol levels through the roof, BTW. It's much more complicated than that and involves an increase in appetite and intake of calories, not just an increase in cortisol itself.
Here's a nice little article about cortisol and weight gain:

Note the last paragraph that discusses the weight loss industry and cortisol claims. Interesting...
