Hello all,

I'm almost finished with my 5th week of the program. I have lost 4 pounds and 10 inches within this first month. However, I'm pissed. This week, as I've got on the scale at home, I seemed to have gained 3 of the 4 back. I follow the program to the T. I exercise faithfully 5 days per week and this week have started working out in the morning and then heading to an aerobics class at night. The pounds are not melting away like all the success stories on this site. I'm not even losing a good 1 pound per week. I'm frustrated! I've been on Weight Watchers before and have lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks...I'm nowhere near that kind of success right now and I'm verrry frustrated and ready to throw in the towel. My consultant has changed my calories from 1700 to 1500 for the last 2 weeks and still....NOTHING!

Does anyone have any suggestions??? I'm really about ready to throw in the towel!

Hi. you must be doing something wrong, or you dont have that much weight to loose. I loose on average about 1.5 lbs a week, sometimes i have a stellar week and loose 3-4 lbs. but...i've been on JC for almost 3 months. I have only lost 23 lbs. my goal is to loose 40. I work out 3 times a week, one of those days is a 8 mile walk/run. The other days I do pilates and body sculpting. I thnk you need to stick with it, and maybe re-evaluate your excersise routine with your JC consultant. I know when you dont have alot of weight to loose, its harder to loose the lbs. I stick to the program pretty faithfully. The weeks I eat other stuff here and there, I dont loose any weight, or gain. Are you doing that too? Because that may be the road block. I feel like even if I eat a peice of string cheese, one little thing, i dont loose that week. Anyways, hope that helps you a little. Dont give up, I feel so great for having lost the 23 lbs, you can do it too!!

sometimes your body gets used to Routine activity, so i suggest you Shake things up with your workout try a new machine you never did before, Do interval training.... do circuit training it gives more of a fat burn boost than doing 3 sets of one exercise before moving onto the next, sometimes in between sets in the circuit I would complete one whole circuit and then jump on treadmill for 2-3 min, then go to the next circuit. Or how about Jillian Michael dvd banish fat boost metabolism.... it's awesome but she says the best way to get a fat burn is intervals as in her dvd.

also not sure your age or health but hormones could play a role, are you watching your sodium intake I keep mine around 1500-2000, because of water retention
'When on your healthy lifestyle journey, take a compass not a watch, knowing where you are going is more important than the time it takes to get there.... You will reach your goals!

Maybe your muscles are retaining water? I have read that that happens a lot and can be misleading when you get on the scale. You have lost 10 inches that is a LOT! All I did was swim a couple days a week and I lost consistently, so if you are following it to a T like you said you WILL see the scale go down. Just be patient! Inches are way more important then the scale in the long run, but I seriously think you will see a drop on the scale soon when your body adjusts. Its math, calories in calories out...your body doesn't have choice! smile.gif Congrats on your loss so far you are doing so great!

I change the intensity of my workout every week. I do a different activitu everyday. I even began running, powerwalking, adding resistance training twice per week. That is not the problem because I've been working closely with a personal trainer and my workouts are anything but routine.

My goal is 40 pounds. I'm 5'4 and weighed in at 220 pounds...I have a lot to lose. Everyone talks about how the first week they lost like 3-5 pounds...I lost .4 pounds....I've never been on a program this long and seen minimum results. I work out 5 days per week and I consistently get in between 4000 and 8000 steps in addition to working out.

The weeks that I ate a small laffy taffy everyday and I lost over a pound. I'm seriously pissed. Herbalife seemed to be waaay easier than this program and I'm eating at regular intervals. My JC consultant reduced my cals from 1700 to 1500 and still...no significant loss.

Suddenly adding a lot more exersize can cause your muscles to retain water. Also, are you PMS? Many women will add anywhere from 1-5 pounds right before TOM... even if they've had a hysterectomy! As long as you got those lovely ovaries, you're very likely to have PMS symptoms. Also, if you are exersizing as much as you say you are, then lowering your calories probably was not a good idea, as it can cause your body to hold on to the fat and burn muscle instead. Go back to 1700 and see if that doesn't make a difference.

Throwing in the towel wont solve any problems. Give it a few more months, you'll probably be glad that you did AND it does no harm in the meantime.

Take care,

The recommended steps per day is 10,000, so you are close....maybe try to get to 10,000 a day.

Also I know how discouraged you must feel, but it has taken me 25 weeks to lose 25 lbs. talk about patience, and 4 of those months I kept gaining and losing the same darn 3 lbs. I have 40 more to go.

If you like to read, Get Bob Harper book from biggest Loser, He talks about "Trusting the Process".

The other thing I would do is wear a HRM, I got my Mio for $50 and don't do an activity without it.

It's all about math, calories in calories out.

so for EXAMPLE if you are on 1500 calories, and your BMR (non activity burn) is 1800 then each day you are creating a deficit of 300 calories, per week that is 2100 calories, 1 lb. = 3500 so to lose 1 lb. a week you will have to do through ACTIVITY burn another 1400 calories, so if you want to lose 2 lbs. you have to burn through activity 4,900 each week.

I highly recommend you track your burn with HRM, and you can copy the chart in my signture so you can track what you are doing this way between your Personal Trainer and Your consultant they can have a better idea of what is going on

If I read correctly, she's doing 8000 steps in addition to her workouts.

I too am having small-ish losses. Only lost a little over a pound my first two weeks on JC! I also lost quicker on WW, but i needed something with more structure as i was using my points on not-so-healthy stuff. Small losses are losses nonetheless, ya know?

However, i'm not sure why you had this gain. How long ago did you switch from 1700 to 1500? Maybe your body just hasn't caught up yet? I really don't know... just wanted to let you know i can empathize with your small losses. Not all of us can lose 20 pounds a month wink.gif
Week 1 = -1.3
Week 2 = -1.1
Week 3 = 0.0 (had a wedding the night before weigh-in)
Week 4 = -1.2
Week 5 = -1.0
Week 6 = -0.6
Week 7 = -0.7
Week 8 = +1.2 (Thanksgiving)
Week 9 = -1.0
Week 10 = -1.7
Total Lost = 7.4

Muscles are heavier than fat, that could be why. But I hear they are sposed to burn more calories in the end. I didn't lose anything my first week but eventually lost avg 2 lbs a week so patience and persistence are things you really need to have to do this in the long haul, and not giving up.

Thanks for your feedback. I believe that if I left my pedometer on while working out, I would be hitting 10,000 steps per day. I don't think there's anything wrong with my exercising. I burn approx 600 per class...that's 3000 per week. Plus if you add my steps, I'm burning 3500 cals easily per week. I guess my major point is that I believed that by buying Jenny's food, I would have structure and lose weight. But, it seems like the opposite is happening. I'm working out consistently and varying the classes, intensity, and activity weekly. I understand it's all about calories in and calories out, but it's not tha cut and dry it seems. If I'm eating 1500 and burning 600 per day, I should be losing...but I'm not.

ShayShae,

I totally understand your frustration. There have been times throughout my weight loss where it felt like I was not losing anything. Here are some thoughts to consider.

1. The first time I lost weight, it just came off 2 or more lbs at a time. It was great! This time around, even when I've been on the program to a "T", the weight loss is taking FOREVER. I've heard before that it becomes more difficult to lose weight after the first time, and it becomes more difficult to lose weight as you reach your ideal weight range. I am at the point where I don't expect to lose much because 1% of my weight is a little over a pound, and I am now down to the fat that I've been carrying around the longest. I have also heard that it becomes harder to lose weight as you get older. Now, I don't consider myself "old", but I am noticing a shift in my hormones and I sometimes wonder if that attributes to a slower weight loss for me this time around.

2. Sometimes, and this happened to me when I first started dieting, you feel like you're following the program to a "T" when you're not. I have made it a rule that I write it down before it goes into my mouth. Whether it is a pretzel, a few m&ms, or whatever, I write it down. When I realized that one peanut M&M has TEN calories, I was shocked. This has definitely kept me accountable and has kept my weight moving in the right direction. Conversely, are you eating everything on your menu that you're supposed to? Sometimes not eating everything has the same effect. When you're body thinks it's starving, it holds onto the weight. Also, have you thought about whether you are accounting for the non-JC food properly? Are you eating starchy vegetables and counting them as regular vegetables (free)? Are you eating low fat, or regular yogurt when you should be eating non-fat? Are you using too much salad dressing at lunch or not the right kind if you're not using the JC dressing? Are you counting peanuts, and olives, which are fats? Are you counting limited frees as frees or eating too many limited frees? Sometimes it's helpful to review the JC grocery list to remember what the exchanges are for foods, and what the sizes of the exchanges are.

3. No need to mention exercise, everyone else seems to have that covered.

4. Do you watch your sodium levels? Do you add salt or other condiments to your food with lots of sodium (or which are not free)? Do you drink a lot of diet soda?

5. Finally, you may actually want to consult your physician. There could be issues totally unrelated to food or exercise which may be slowing down your weight loss.

I wish you the best of luck and totally understand your frustration. I have lost ~7 lbs since September 9 (which is so frustrating at times!), but I stick with JC because I'm losing weight which I would not be otherwise losing (and indeed, I'd probably be gaining) and it doesn't feel like a diet.

I have my first weigh in today so I am no one to talk about how JC works, I am still waiting for a call back from my JCC However "Big Picture here" You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and the people that love you. It dosen't matter what "diet" you do just stick with it . Your exercise is something to be soo proud of you are giving life to yourself with every step so don't stop. The way I would look at it is , you paid for this program might as well stick it out a little longer.

It seems to me ( I could be wrong) you are putting yourself under a great deal of pressure and pressure turns to stress and Dr. Oz says "stress can cause your metabolism to slow" instead of running/steps maybe start having more fun. Volunteer at a YMCA ,Join a organized sport, play football with some kids or my favorite just go Dancing!!!

But I think you are doing great!! I hope I can follow your lead in the Exercise department.

Thank you so much! I'm positive you will do great. I've kinda figured out the issue once I read through some of the other posts about different subjects. WATER. I wasn't drinking enough. An just by drinking 8 glasses of water for the last 3-4 days, my clothes are waaay loser on me! So much so, in a few weeks, I may have to give my pants away. So I know that I may have lost some weight this week, if not, then I'm losing major inches. I would like to lose 10 pounds by December and I think that I will.

You are right, I have placed too much pressure on myself.I guess when you read about people losing 100 pounds in 11 months, it makes you expect more from the program. I'm taking it 10 pounds at a time, with the wish to lose about 80 altogether. I'm relaxing more and exercising for fun...I'd like to run a half marathon next November...but I actually LOVE running. I love being active. It's easy to get frustrated and give up. But, I am gonna stick with it.

It's as the poem "Don't Quit" says "It's when you're hardest hit that you mustn't quit." And I'm not.

I'm so glad you figured it out! Cheers, and here's to continued weight loss!

Why in God's green earth would you drop calories when you exercise faithfully 5 times a week and sometimes twice a week.

I dropped 50 lbs and then have barely lost 4 lbs. It is frustrating to watch my weight bounce up and down .8 lbs at a time. However, I am consistantly losing inches and dropping in clothing sizes. I too workout 5 times a week and have increased my intensity.

You need to ask her to consult a nutritionist.

Well we dropped 200 calories initially because I was only 3 pounds over the weight limit for 1500 anyway. And since the scale wasn't moving, my JC consultant (along with other JC consultants who we called in the room for help) decided that it may be a good move to try the 1500 cals and see what happens. If the weight stalls again, we'll discuss calories again. But...I'm thinking my issue was water. Everything else was already in place. Time will tell.

How long did it take you to lose 50 pounds?

So would you like to hear how my 1st weigh in at JC went? I will give you a little history from my JC Diary...

Monday- Dear Diary,
Signed up for JC wondering If I can sell my first born child to pay for it, I put Roxy on ebay but no hits yet.

Tuesday- Dear Diary,
Exercised and followed JC diet until the sun went down then I had 2 glasses of wine 1/2 cup of pistachios and a hand full of red licorice I thought I read that was part of the diet.

Wednesday- Dear Diary,
Went out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant with friends, I had the chicken soup but it was full of Spanish rice and I think a whole chicken,so I consumed the entire thing and began eating off the floor.

Thursday- Dear Diary,
Had a great day exercised ate all the right things but Bill was all freaked out by the whole head turning all the way around thing, wimp- I guess I was a little moody.

Friday - Dear Diary,
Did another great job until Roxy got home with an enchanted Caramel Cheesecake torte. I was then put under a magical trance and forced to take a bite and then poof! It was gone.

Saturday- Dear Diary,
Went to a costume party, ate my JC before the party then when we arrived I ate everything else, I was then asked to leave the buffet and was restricted to the dance floor, so I paid the Bartender on the down low and met him under the disco ball for my beverages.

Sunday- Dear Diary,
Football dinner at my sister in laws, She is a WW success, but she served a cheese beach ball that was out of this world so I am convinced that she is one of several secret WW agents working on a plot to sabotage any and all JC members. I will keep my eye on her.

MONDAY WEIGH IN DAY!!!!!- I met my JCC for the first time and she is great! I wrote down and presented all of my accomplishments from the week to her on the weekly planner given to me by JC . Joni ( my consultant) Read my planner..... then looked at me .......Read it again....looked at me....Read it for the last time ...then placed her head on her desk and began to pray . She very calmly looked me straight in the eye and said ..."We shall never speak of this week again." So under the direction of my JCC this is my first week on JC and I look forward to my very first weigh in.
