I just scrolled down the forum list and noticed this board existed. This is great!

I'm a gay male from Central Massachusetts and just got back on Jenny after being off for awhile. I've struggled off and on for years to lose weight and am more determined than ever to finish what I started.

It's nice to see Jenny Craig to provide an area for LGBT people.

I don't have much else to say but "hi!"

It's sad that nobody has said anything in this forum since August!

there's gotta be more of us.

Not that I necessarily need the support of the LGBT community to lose weight, just talking to similar people who know what it's like to deal with being overweight in the LGBT community would be kinda nice.

Hi! There are several groups that just don't seem to move much. Maybe you could get this one going again. How are you doing on the plan?

The Men's Forum is also very inactive. Of course, JC doesn't promote their program for men at all as far as I can see.

Hi Everyone,

I think it is fantastic that JC offers this forum to our community. I'm a long time JC client. I'll do the program, lose the 20 lbs. that life sneakily adds on, go off the program, allow 20 lbs. to build up over a couple of years, then do the program again. The gain/loss cycle isn't fast enough to be a yo-yo. It's just life with an office job and a hectic schedule that is not easily conducive to eating right and exercising.

I just turned 48. I'm on my third week. Not much progress so far, which is quite frustrating. But I want to lose this 20 lbs. so I'm committed to following through. I think the holidays are going to be tough. I joined a challenge at my Center to lose 6 lbs. by Jan. 1. So I better get off here and go exercise. I am running/walking a 5 mile Turkey Trot tomorrow which is a bit ambitious given my current fitness level. I'll let you know how it goes.

I made it to the elliptical this morning for 30 minutes. Tomorrow is the 5 mile Turkey Trot. It's expected to be cold and rainy, but being out there in bad weather is actually part of the charm of the race. I've done just so-so on my plan today. I added a Starbucks skinny sugar free latte', an extra snack, and some mashed potatos in lieu of veggies for dinner. As my partner says, "And you wonder why you're not losing weight?"

Good Luck on your trot today! Stay warm and make sure if your exercise has increased to let your consultant know...you may need to increase calories depending on how much.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I ran my 5 mile Turkey Trot today in 52:13, with a pace of 10:27 per mile. I may be a little sore in my quads tomorrow. The weather was actually kind of nice. Granted, I shouldn't have had the celebratory mocha from Starbucks afterwards, but the overall experience was really great. I always feel so much more relaxed after some exercise.

Good for you! And Happy Thanksgiving also.
I'm trying Tofurkey for the first time... unsure.gif . My splurge will be the full fat green bean casserole, it's my fave. No pie.
Did you get a commemorative Turkey Trot T-shirt?

Yes, I got the commemorative Turkey Trot t-shirt. I was very sore yesterday; it hurt to go up and down the stairs. How was the tofuturkey? I found trying to watch what I eat very challenging over this Thanksgiving season. At my weigh in today, I was up 1.2 pounds. The optimist in me says (1) that's way better than the 5+ lbs. I likely would've gained had I not been on JC and (2) most of that is probably water weight from eating some very salty food yesterday which my partner made as a Thanksgiving dinner for our son who is home from college. The pessimist in me says I need to get serious about this plan. So I'm re-focusing, re-directing, and re-committing for the upcoming week. Hopefully, getting back into my normal routine will help bring some better structure and discipline.

I just got back from a 30 mile bike ride, 15 miles out and back. It was great. The weather is unseasonably warm (it was 60 degrees), and Dayton, Ohio may not have a lot of amenities compared to larger metropolitan areas but it does have a wonderful network of bicycle trails. The trail I rode today was spectacular in its beauty and serenity.

The discouraging weight gain that I had yesterday at my weigh in disappeared over night, thank goodness. My scale at home said I was down over a pound, which is very encouraging. Hope everyone else is doing well too.

So far, so good for today. I got up early enough to do my iFit body sculpting program which has 20 minutes of cardio interspersed with body toning exercises. I've done well on the food. Off-plan, I had a small handful of nuts. The only food I skipped was the veggies, which seems to be an item very hard for me to eat. I've never been a fan. Since I take this a day at a time, it feels good to put this one in the win column.

I really wish my partner too would commit to becoming healthier and more fit. It is all the more challenging with her bringing unhealthy foods into our home (think donuts, pizza, candy bars, etc.)

Wow..you are really hitting it on the activity! Good for you!
That's my biggest challenge even though I enjoy it I can't seem to make it a habit.
I'm telling myself "no choice" , not even having the conversation in my brain that says things like...." well..I just ate, I don't want to work out now,it might make me nauseaus" "well...yesterday I did like double crunches so that pretty much covers todays activity too..." Ha ha.
Must do SOMETHING before going to bed even if it's just walking the dogs or a couple quick reps with hand weights.
The tofurkey wasn't bad! Definitely could have used gravy but not bad at all.
As far as your partner, that's a tough one. You don't want to probably impose on her choices and you know you have to be in the right mindset to commit. Maybe just invite for more fun types of activity with you. Like...I don't know... frisbee, walks,heck..even bowling has a little movement? And do more cooking if you don't already. Make some yummy new healthy meals that you both can enjoy.
Have you had a conversation about the junk food? " I don't want you to feel imposed upon for my choices but I could really use your support right now. I'm trying to improve my health and it's very important to me. Can we talk about some things that are triggers for me and limit them in the house until I feel like I have the skillpower to overcome my urges?" Something like that? Maybe she could only get single size portions for herself for example, or keep them in her car.
Are you 7 days a week jenny food?
Have a great day,
Lisa

Another day in the win column. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical this morning. I've discovered that the only way to guarantee that I exercise is to do it in the morning and get it out of the way. If I wait until after work, the likelihood that I find an excuse skyrockets. But the trade off is that I'm going to bed way early so that I can get up in time to fit in at least a half hour workout and not feel exhausted the rest of the day from the lack of sleep. I've done pretty well on the JC plan today. Still short on veggies, story of my life. Am getting ready to go home for dinner and don't feel ravenous. Sometimes, on the drive home, I ponder eating my steering wheel. Yea, I'm doing JC 7 days currently, but the reality is that I generally don't do the plan on Saturdays (my partner loves to eat out) and I go off plan for a couple of lunches and a dinner or two. During the week, it's for business meetings and the like. So my progress is slow even though when I go off plan I don't feel like I'm going hog wild. Even when I'm stuck, my upside attitude is "at least I'm not gaining as much as I would be if I weren't trying." Hope everyone else is hanging in there and experiencing success!!!

Your motivation and commitment to your activity is very inspiring , so thank you for that!
Sounds like you might need a snack for in the car! Those babybel light cheese rounds are really good if you have a spare milk serving. Some apple or pear wedges with it could be a good snack to pack ahead? Or a low sodium V8 drink if you like it...that way you get your veg and fill up a bit before you get home.
Oh...I am not usually a big anytime bar fan...but I got the new Oatmeal Raisin ....YUM. So much better than the others in my opinion. Tastes like spice cake cookie dough with white chocolate frosting.

I'll have to check out the new flavor of Anytime bars. Like you, I haven't been a fan of them. Thanks for the drive home suggestions. I'll find something light and healthy to keep in the car. I got my exercise in today--an iFit program on my treadmill. I've done pretty well on the plan today. I weigh in on Saturday mornings, so Wednesday feels like the home stretch. Just two more days. Hopefully this time the scale will move in the right direction!

How does the iFit work? I'm so technilogically(sp?) challenged it's not even funny.
I don't go to work until 4 today so I'm going to get in my 30 day shred workout and hopefully finish this blanket I've been crocheting for my mom for xmas done..and my laundry caught up.
As far as your weigh in...you are definitely burning calories, do you monitor well with your menu and take it to consultations?

Wahoo! I weighed in today and had lost 2 lbs. So now I'm encouraged and motivated again. I had a very short work out today, but did ok eating. I had committed to losing 6 lbs. by New Year's Day, so I'm on track to make that goal, which will really make me happy. Obviously, I'm thrilled with the weight loss and my clothes fitting better, but I'm most pleased with simply feeling better and also doing this in a sustainable way that I can keep doing.

iFit is basically a little microchip that you can plug into certain brands of cardio equipment that will cause the speed, incline, and/or resistance to automatically adjust according to a preset plan. I'm liking it. I have some pretty old versions, but there are new ones designed by Jillian Michaels.

Good luck with your Xmas present project. I admire people that can make things. My artistic/craft skills peaked in third grade and have gone downhill since. So making presents just isn't an option for me. Good luck with your upcoming week!

Congratulations!!!! 2 lbs is perfect. What you said about doing this in a sustainable way is so important. A plan has to be realistic but still challenging to get the most from it, I think.
We had our JC xmas dinner out last night and it was a lot of fun. I can't speak for other centers, but the two our franchise covers right now is the best I've seen it since coming to the company. We really have an awesome group of consultants and managers who truly care about their clients and love their jobs.
Thanks for explaining the iFit...I'd seen the commercial with Jillian but didn't quite get how it worked. I like her no excuses ,just do it sort of approach.
Have a great weekend!
