I found the title of this group, "gay, lesbian, bi, etc." pretty funny. What's so hard about saying "transgender?" Well, I guess I should be grateful they got the "bi" in there. So I'm a bi womon-born-womon with transgender friends (as well as lesbian, gay and straight friends), and what gets me about the whole Jenny Craig thing is the programming about what's desirable, what's beautiful and what's healthful. I see all these "before" and "after" photos of women, and half the time I find the "after" photos just plain scary.

How do you reconcile a desire to lose weight by this method with a consciousness about feminism, about heterosexism, and about stereotypes? For goodness' sake, I LIKE curvy women. Yet here I am watching my own curves diminish as I've gone from 175 to 133 pounds. At a height of 5'7" I probably ought to be stopping now, but it's so tempting to take off another 10 now that I know I can do it. I know that if I were an MTF, say, being anorexic would be practically normative, but it certainly isn't particularly cool in my community of bi folk, some of whom are downright roly-poly. So how do I know when enough is enough with this weight-loss stuff? And how do I deal with the creeping suspicion that Jenny Craig is just So Unqueer?

I don't think sexual preference or gender for that matter, has anything to do with dieting. This forum is here for people of a like mindset to support one another.

Most of us following JC have a desire to become HEALTHY and nothing more. Carrying an excess of body weight causes all types of health problems. Diabetes, high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries are just a few. You can still be curvy and healthy at the same time. In fact, the 25 pounds I have lost so far is bringing back my curves instead of making me look like a big blob.

As for your question of how do you know when enough is enough? Talk with your doctor. Have your body fat percentage checked to make sure you are not going below the recommended BMI. And for the most part how do you feel?
