Just curious, for those of you who have an active social life, do you have a plan in place for when you go out to manage the temptations of drinking and food?
I tend not to drink...or maybe have 1 Michelob Ultra...or a wine spritzer when i go out...I find that sometimes if i try to party like i did in college i end up eating like i did in college too! Haha.
I tend to stay away from happy hours and stuff like that b/c i know that everyone's going to be drinking and sometimes i fear i may not have that good of a time b/c i don't have much interest in drinking. Every now and then i desire a margarita or something and definately do have one. My thing is, i feel like I don't socialize much b/c i rather do other things than hang out at a bar.
What do you guys do?

I feel the same way. I feel like if I go out, I will "ruin" my whole week. I'm in my late 30's so I am tired of bars anyway. I tend to go to the movies (and NOTget popcorn) or try to do active things during the day so that I am too tired to want to go out at night. WARNING: My lifestyle does not lead to meeting men. But on the other hand, I am getting healthy.

He and I like to go to sports bars (to eat and play trivia). One day, he wanted to grab some wings at a sports bar as an appetizer to dinner (we were going elsewhere for dinner). At the sports bar, I got a side salad, and they had FF Italian available. So I just ate that and drank diet coke while he drank beer. It was fine, but the side salad portion was really small and somewhat expensive for what I got. But I felt proud that I (1) didn't drink alcohol (2) ate free veggies (3) didn't eat any of his wings.
The other night, we went to a sports bar for dinner. Even before I started JC, I had been getting a salad for dinner (instead of a burger or something). I got the salad for dinner. Unfortunately, the bar has no healthy dressing choices. I used a small portion of their regular ranch. They also left the cheese on the salad, so I tried to brush that to the side. Unfortunately, my boyfriend can't just get wings -- he has to get something to go with it -- so he got nachos to share with a friend who was with us. I had a few of those b/c I'd skipped my snack and exercised that day.
I have been beating myself up over it all week, b/c it seems to have stopped my weight loss in its tracks.
My advice to you:
1. Step 1 is ordering the salad. Try to keep them from putting fatty things on there...especially the cheese. Croutons can at least count as the carb portion of your meal. Try to be smart about your salad dressing, but I think I'm going to start carrying a Jenny Dressing in my purse at all times, just so I don't have to worry about finding good salad dressings.
2. Resist the urge to snack on what other people order for "the group". Chances are that it will cause your portions to be more than what they should be.
3. At restaurants that do have options, stick with the salad + lean meat with a light dressing, or order a lean meat + steamed veggies.
DO NOT FEEL INFLUENCED TO DRINK, JUST BECAUSE YOUR FRIENDS ARE DRINKING. People don't drink in bars all the time...whether they are an alcoholic, the designated driver, or just don't feel like drinking. People will not look at you strangely for not drinking. Just stick to a Diet Coke. I am a social drinker, and I have not felt odd being the only one with a Diet Coke in any of the sports bars I've been in lately.
Good luck!
