I am no expert here, but I have had a personal trainer in the past and have learned how to exercise properly. While exercise tapes and running are great cardio exercises you really should lift weights too. When you do cardio, you will continue to burn calories for the next hour after approximately. When you lift weights, you will continue to burn more calories for approximately the next 24 hours. To get the most efficient workout lift weights then do cardio immediately after.

Being that you are a teen, there is probably someone in your high school, a gym teacher or coach or something like that, who would be very willing to help teach you how to use weights properly. I know when I was in highschool, which was five years ago now... we had a weigh troom that we were free to use after school, so maybe your school has something similar?

Best of Luck,

Jolie
Week 1: -5 pounds (woohoo on my way)
Week 2: -1.4
Week 10: -2.4

Total: 16.6 pounds lost.

Don't forget flexibility!

It's been a VERY long time since I was a teen, but I truly wish someone had told me how important it is to stay flexible. Yoga is my addiction, but any stretching routine would work, too. To go with what Jolie said, whoever is showing you how to lift weights can also show you stretching to match.

I build my workouts around those three pillars: endurance, strength and flexibility. Cardio, weight training and yoga will take you very far in health and weight loss.

Also, the best advice I've heard for what exercise to do? Whatever you can commit to! Just moving is really the best, especially if you're new. Mix it up -- do your DVDs sometimes, and get outside as much as you can. Fresh air and sunshine are the best mood lifters.

Best wishes!

Personally, I love the stair master at my local gym. You burn the calories very fast and you just feel good afterwards. I also like the treadmill.

they say u should do cardio and stuff. what works for me is going to the gym and getting on either a bike thing or elyptical. and do it for a half hour or more. sometimes i do half and half to make it seem like less.

Hey, I would suggest Zumba!!! My mom got me started back in October when I first start Jenny Craig and it's a lot of fun and you sweat a ton.

I am a huge fan of water exercise....I like to walk in the water, do water aerobics, and strength training in the water. The pool I go to has water weights that I use....I love the resistance that it offers. On days that I don't feel like going to the pool, I walk or do other aerobic type dvds. If you are into yoga, one of my favorite dvds is called Yoga for Weightloss with Suzanne Deason. This DVD is nice b/c it shows you each move for whatever your flexibility lvl is. I am not very flexible, so I have to use my yoga blocks when I do it.

I hope this helps!
