30something Teachers

I am a 31 year-old single mom to an almost 6 year-old...and will be teaching a combo/multi-age 1st/2nd grade beginning in late August.
I would love to get out of the size 16s and back into the 8s before I go back to work and we have our Fall pictures. It's been a long time since I've been happy with what I see in the mirror.
I started at 201.6 and am down 5 pounds after 3 weigh-ins. I didn't see a loss on the scale this past week, but feel good because with all of the end-of-the-year goodies and "luncheons" and "parties" that have gone on this week, I didn't gain!
Once school winds down, I'm looking forward to being able to spend more time in the gym and outside, getting more activity...right now, no plans for summer other than to lose weight!
I'm looking for support here since I won't be seeing any of my co-workers (regularly) over the summer!
TIA!

I am a 34 year old high school science teacher. We just let out for school last week and I actually lost 1.8lbs! The end of the year party I felt very empowered b/c I had small portions of the BBQ luncheon. But I thought I had gained. Ms. A you should be happy, because I think it is hard for teachers. People don't realize that we probably have more food always at our disposal other than doctor's offices. So it is possible to be a teacher and lose weight! I was on Nutrisystem prior to joining Jenny and actually want to kick myself for not joining Jenny first and foremost. The food is better and you get support/accountability. I gained a lot of weight when I started teaching in '95 and haven't stopped. I want to get back to my size 8 that I was before. I am right now in 16-18 (before NS I was between 20/22), but hopefully it won't be long before that size 8 gets here.
I hope we can keep this going although I will say that I probably don't check that often. I will try and make a conscious effort.
So here is something uplifting: I tried on my high school ring. and it FIT! I lost two sizes on my finger. I have only been on Jenny for two months. In fact I have lost 15 inches total since being on Jenny in these two months! Oh and I just gave two bags of clothes

Mornixuur, that is very true about "people don't realize that we probably have more food always at our disposal..."
During my last week here, the last two days were "Junk Food Day" and then a "Build a Gigantic Sandwich Day"...I had to literally STAY AWAY from the Teacher's Lounge and away from all those temptations. Some of the ladies who like to "stir up trouble" (and I know we all have those on site!) started a rumor that I was "mad at everyone" and that's why I didn't go in to eat lunch with them! I had to reassure my principal (and a few others that matter) that it was only because I didn't want to sit in there with a big bowl of Fritos or Cheetos or candy or cookies in front of my face and be "mindlessly eating" and finishing the whole thing without even thinking about it! Only two of my co-workers know that I've started JC, so they backed me up, but I haven't wanted to advertise to everyone that I'm trying to lose weight again. In the past 3 years, I've been on and off WW, but would hit a plateau and then gain it all back (and sometimes, a little more)!
Cropper, I'm right there with you! I'm planning on going back in August and just stunning everyone with the "brand new me"...
I've been trying to walk more (with the rising gas prices, that's also another incentive to not use my car for short trips) or ride my bike to more places with my daughter riding in the trailer that's attached.
Nueva, the anytime bar did not agree with me as well! I did try it my first two days, but after the first two-thirds of it, I could not choke down the last third! I've been substituting a yogurt and a one-a-day multivitamin.
Not really on topic but funny...My grade level buddy is looking at the One-a-Day Vitamin bottle with a puzzled look on her face. Her 10 year old daughter asks her what's wrong. She says "I can't read how many of these vitamins I'm supposed to take" (while looking at the "small print" side). Her daughter takes the bottle from her, turns it the other way and says "One a day?"
Let's keep this going!

I was a teacher for seven years in a preschool setting where lunches were provided for the entire school - staff included - and half those lunches consisted of hot dogs, baked beans, taco salad, sloppy joe, pizza, chicken nuggets, home made spaghetti, etc. and it was VERY difficult to try losing weight on my own. Thank goodness for Jenny at that point.
The greatest part about doing the program as a teacher was that I taught the children how to eat better immediately. I showed them how to balance what was needed and many children who "don't like vegetables" began LOVING them because I would use them as snacks. All of the children in my class loved Veggie trays at the parties and many preferred them over the chocolates and snacks that occasionally came in.
Keep up the great work for everyone. Teachers are the ones who make the differences in childrens lives - no matter the age - and it's awesome to see more of us out there showing we can make that difference not just for ourselves but for others as well.

I also work as a teacher to child actors on movie production sets and that is my biggest downfall when it comes to eating. There is ALWAYS tons of food available and LOTS of great junk food which is hard to resist - especially when you are working crazy hours and feel like you need a sugar boost!
I have the summer off from both jobs and hope that I can develop some better eating haabits so when I go back to work I will be eating smaller portions and making healthier choices.
I just started the program today. I have about 35 pounds I would like to lose!
Thanks for starting this thread as I think it is create for teachers to be able to chat!
Jen :-)

p.s. I do have the food pyramid on display all year in my classroom, but we don't really focus on it until then. One reason I did start this was one of the times I had started WW, but it also had to do with our District's Wellness Policy ~ cutting out the tons of candy and cookies and other sweets we typically have during our class parties.

So how are you guys liking your consultants? I love mine (Gabby). She is funny. I don't have anyone at my school doing JC, but a few have asked what I am doing. One I think is serious about joining, which would be nice. I have been more consistant on this program than any other and that is due to Gabby.
Neuva you might also try other non JC protein bars or eat cottage cheese (JC considers this a protein) or an egg. But I personally think that JC's are one of the better ones. Of course, I am so used to Nutrisystem that I don't mind them. The cookies and cream ones are my favs. the peanut butter isn't so good but I get them down. Not everyone can eat protein bars. I can't do shakes, but maybe you could.
I teach biology to high school students. We cover a somewhat loose form of nutrition when we talk about diabetes. This always comes up when they are upset about the lack of junk food choices. So I explain about how the ups/downs are not good for the body and what the result is. I think what is even more is the caffeine. Those energy drinks should be like white out. Only those 18 and up should be able to purchase them. Caffeine is doing more damage to these kids than the fast food. The combination of fast food with caffeine is horrible. anyways, I digress.
I don't know how anyone can "stop" a diet program either. Summer is worse for me because I am a night person and have to do my food accordingly. I tend to skip meals and then eat big at the meals I do eat and then graze, so I think I am doing pretty good so far (I have been sticking to it). I think that she isn't going to be consistant in her weight loss either. The main thing of JC is this is a learning tool for those who need a baby step to learn better choices and retrain their subconscious when it deals with food. This should lead to a change in behavior as we are finishing and make our diet a lifestyle. I had to get a multivitamin with iron (I think I am low in iron; bruising too easily and staying long)...I am trying the one a day weight management one. So I will let you know how that goes.
So anyways...has anyone bought the scale? I am thinking of getting it. But it will probably be in Sept. I got a paid inservice to write curriculum for my county so now I will have money to buy new clothes for the beginning of the year. Oh and check out Lane Bryant...I think until the 28th they are having a buy 2 get 2 bras free. I got 4 for $60 and they fit so nicely.
Cropper...congrats on finishing a month! let us now how many inches you lost!

YW! I just saw you had your inches lost below so good job!!!!! I was never a five either. In high school I was a size 10, which equates to a size 8 now. My hips have always been bigger too, which used to irritate me in school. Realistically I want the size 8 and will probably be there by December at the latest. I think though that if I exercised more regularly it would be easier to lose the inches. Keep up the good work!

Hi all! I'm 38 and taught 2nd grade for the last 4 years and will be starting 4th grade this coming school year. End of the year parties are sooooo hard! Our last day is always from Olive Garden. Yikes! We also raffle off lunches with the teachers at our end-of-the-year carnival. I still managed a loss. And the staff room is the WORST!!! So many snacks and sweets! I've been very lucky, though. The staff where I work have been very supportive. Anybody else here have a class snack time so you can get in some of your Jenny food? Enjoy your summer!!

After 6 weeks on Jenny I am almost to my half way mark and excited about the lifestyle change. The real test will be in September when school starts back. I'm just hoping to maintain my weight loss and not feel emotional pain every time there is a party of some sort!
