Singles Board Participation

I am just wondering why is the singletons forum participation so low.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I know that when I first joined JC it took me about 5 weeks to find a forum that wasn't for single mothers, new wives, new mothers, soon to be wives, losing lbs for reunions, etc. Are we just hard to find? Is it because of the lack of replies to post, or are there just not that many of us using JC?
What can we do to billed the participation? Come on, I know there are more singles out there and we are looking for support.
Give some suggestions and lets see if we can build a world wide, world renowned, exciting place for singles to get support and share their JC experience.
Well I need all the support I can get, so I am taking a more proactive approach to see what we can do to create the environment we need.

Hi Missy and everyone!
Maybe we can pick a topic for each week and talk about it...
I will start a topic..
Being single and staying true to the JC program. Lots of my friends like to go out to eat and drink! I find it hard to stay track when I go out with friends.. sometimes one beer leads to another... even though they are light beers!

I agree with Shelly34 - my biggest challenge is my social life. Everything revolves around happy hours and dinners out, which of course I love and are fun, but also add calories to my plan. I ask friends to work out with me as an alternative to another HH, but with little success. With summer upon us, some of my friends have started going on walk/runs with me, but the primary source of "fun" on the weekends revolves around food and cocktails. It is definitely a challenge!
Without these distractions, I find the program very easy to stick with since I live alone and love the convenience of the pre packaged foods.
My current frustration is that I am about 15 pounds to goal and can't seem to make the darn scale budge. I have been on JC since early October 2007 and have lost 25 lbs. But, these 15 lbs are sticking to me like glue. I'm trying to mix up the workouts and increase the cardio. I've also restricted my alcohol intake.
What are you all doing?

Hi everyone,
Shelly this is a great suggestions and a great topic to start on. Honestly I have not found a way to deal with my social life adjusting to JC. I can't believe how everything revolves around food or an activity that includes food, or leads to going to get food. I am drifting further away from my co-workers who are trying to be supportive because they don't ask me to go out to lunch with them anymore because they don't want to tempt me. But of course this means I am out of the loop on everything. They are all married with kids so when they do afterwork things I usually don't go, because it sucks always being the single person in a crew of married couples. And it gets expensive borrowing other people's kids (cousins, nieces, nephews, etc) to take places.
Of course my signle friends all want to go to dinner, movies (snack time), bars, night clubs (liquor at food), coffee houses (i don't drink coffee nor tea which means I end up with a $6/550cal. smoothie with whipped cream). If someone has any suggestions I am open to trying just about anything.

Hi No Doubt,
Where do you live? If it is in NJ we could walk together and beat the boredom! I also know what it is like to be out with all my married friends.. it is tough.. esp when they order Nachos!!!!

For me, most of my friends do the going out to eat thing. It was difficult before because my best friends, (both larger people), would eat like crazy, and old Stephanie would just go with the flow. Well, since joining JC on 6/1/08, we've gone out a couple of times, and I eat my JC meal before I go, and then order a side salad with no cheese, croutons, or other extras, and then get some balsamic on the side. Doing this allows me to still go out and socialize without deviating from the plan. The best news is, that the wife in that couple has joined up for JC because of my weight loss, and now the temptation to go out has subsided a bit because we're both on the plan.
What else? We're going on a cruise in October. I am using that as my big goal, and then making smaller month goals to help get me there.
Being single stinks sometimes, but I find that I'm getting to know myself all over again. Part of this program is about getting back in touch with you, with your emotions. Since I don't want this to be a temporary solution for me, I'm taking a lot of time to reflect on what I've done in the past so that I can take a new successful direction.
Wishing everyone a great week!
Steph

I'm single too. I had not noticed there was a single forum.
I do not seem to have a lot of problems with going out. I eat before I go out and if I eat out I eat something healthy like a salad with everything on the side. lol. I actually go out every weekend. I LOVE dancing, so I go clubbing every weekend. I do not drink, so I do not have a problem with my friends drinking around me. I just get water to drink, either way its super expensive to buy drinks at clubs. I save a ton of money! lol.
After we go out to a club, we always go to Denny's or IHOP. So I get a salad or 2 egg beaters and 1 pancake that is 196 calories plus a bit of syrup. So Im guessing 250 calories extra for that day but I always go dancing and I always do those days more than 12,000 steps, meaning the 250 calories are not counted. It's great to have a life and still loose weight. Thats what JC is trying to teach all of us. If you are going to splurge you have to make sure you do some extra activities to make up for it.
Simbarella and Shelly - I have to agree with you that men do not like chubby women. But that is okay - none of us will be chubby in a couple of months. So do not worry!
Stephanie - I'm on the same boat as you are when it comes to re-doing myself. Changing my ways and revisiting my emotions. I have been a total mess and a wreck when it came to "Me". I have gained a ton of weight in the last couple of years, lost my courage, lost who I was, lost my motivation, lost my faith, and lost the importance of what I wanted to be. I have been gathering the pieces in the last year and this was the last piece I needed to pick up. I have finally started to re-do myself and finally start seeing the person I wanted to be. The person that has always been inside of me but was dormant for so long. I'm extremely happy to be here and to be discovering "Me" again.
Hope to see you around,
Newera4ever

You seem so positive, and have a lot of great ideas. I am going to have to "channel" you when I finally do get myself out there!
I too love to dance, but my hang up is that all/most of my friends are married! I wish you lived near central Florida!!
Best wishes for fabulous success. I had my WI this morning, and actually lost a pound, so I'm at 10 lbs. for two weeks. Pretty happy with that!!
Look forward to hearing from you...another single woman with some fun insights!!

Let's see, single, 36, no kids, no bf. I started Jenny on 3/17 and as of this morning I've lost 23.1 pounds (have to add in that .1). I'm definitely a person that loves to go out and socialize. Out of my three closest friends...two are SUPER skinny and have NO problem eating and especially DRINKING the night away! I try to pick the food and stick to Michelob Ultra.
I try to either eat my Jenny food before I go, or just eat a really small meal. Problem is, I go out a lot in NYC and I'm a car ride AND a train ride away so a lot of times I'm leaving before I can even manage to eat my dinner. It's challenging.
Steph, I'm going on a cruise in October too! Where are you going? I'm going to Bermuda and the Caribbean. SO excited!! I have 29 pounds to go till goal...I hope I can make it by then!

A cruise in October...cool! I can't wait either. I'm leaving out of Tampa, it's a Carnival (PARTY) cruise, and we're going to Mexico, Cozumel, and somewhere else, but I can't remember. I'm going with a whole bunch of friends, but it was supposed to be me and my b/f. Instead, we broke up almost two weeks ago now, and I find myself cruising alone. So, I'm shaping up, slimming down, and preparing myself to have a heck of a good time!
So, where are you going? AND...do you think that you and I could chat on a consistent basis to where we can cheer one another on to meet our goals to look darn good for these cruises? I could use a buddy!
I plan on working this program...I am committed.
BTW, I am 31, no kids, and as I mentioned...newly single. I am trying to get myself together, and feel better about myself so I stop letting these jokers hurt me. I am one of those women that tends to date the same people multiple times. I dated the last guy twice...why don't I learn. Give me advice...I need major help!
Can't wait to hear from you, and can't wait to hear about your cruise details!
Hugs,
Steph

I'm going to Bermuda, St Thomas, St Maarten and Puerto Rico! It's a nine day cruise on Royal Caribbean. My friend & I booked this last September, I can't believe it's getting so close! I'm almost at my half way point with Jenny and I'm NERVOUS. I think I'd rather just do 100% Jenny till the cruise. I want to look GOOD and I don't want to waste time with plateaus! I'm impatient.
Is there a private message feature on here? I don't do IM or anything like that but I can give you my email.

Phyllis,
I'm going to try and click on your profile. I think I saw a feature in there where you can email.
Yes, I know a whole bunch of friends isn't alone, but it was supposed to be couples. I'm fine with it, as I know I'm going to have a blast with my friends anyway.
I'm so jealous!!! You're taking a nine day cruise, wow! This is my first one, and I just hopped on board with what the majority wanted. I am so excited to see Mayan ruins, and to go snorkeling, etc. I would love to visit Puerto Rico. My father was born there, so I'd like to check things out. I have heard Royal Carribean is an awesome cruise. I keep closing my eyes, and envision myself on the deck of the boat, in a cute bathing suit, (I will be in a very cute bathing suit by then), feeling the warm sun on my body, hearing the water, seeing nothing in the distance for miles, ordering a drink from a hopefully very cute waiter!! I can almost put myself there now when I think about it! I can not wait!!
Okay, so here's my question...when you say do Jenny 100% of the time, what are you talking about? Forgive me, I'm new!
So how many pounds did you say you had until your halfway point? I've got 15 I think! Don't be nervous, you have obviously been successful on this program. I know that we are both going to do this...
Have a great Monday!!

This is going to be my second cruise...my first was in '89 so I kind of don't count it!
When you get to halfway on JC, you're supposed to start planning some of your own meals. That's what scares me! I've done Weight Watchers before...but I'm really been enjoying having everything done for me! And I'd rather just get it all off first. I have 3 pound to halfway....then 26 more to lose after that. Four months and 6 days till I cruise!
I know what you mean about wanting to have the JC food. It's so much easier! Especially going out. Sometimes I'd rather just eat before I go and then just have a light beer or something "out". But I'm a lightweight (when it comes to alcohol!!) and can get tipsy fast! Which is sometimes not a bad thing...LOL!

OK, u have significantly made me jealous with all this talk of cruises, sun, surf, ruins and bathing suits!! I hope you both have a great time and really relax and enjoy it all. I did a Hawaiian cruise in '96 and went to 4 islands/5 ports of call. It is a lovely way to travle. never have to pack and unpack the whole time!
I have been on JC since Jan '07. Have lost 86 lbs but have about 150 or so to go. I also struggle with the socialization vrs eating out problem. I even find some of my friends "forgetting" i am on a lifestyle change and they kind of sabbatage me. Did I just call them friends??
My birthday was last week and my c0workers put on a healthy luncheon for me...fruit, veggies, LF crackers. But then my boss gave me potato chips as a gift!! WHAT??? And another one made a Rice Krispie treat birthday cake. I ended up giving the chips to my brother and never touched the "cake". But why do the healthy lunch and then turn and do that?? Sabbatage!
Anyway, I also am glad to see a singles group. I do not, however, think we are exclusive in our stuggles of eating out as this is just a way of life in the US and everyone stuggles here. I am blessed with many singles friends but even the married ones are fun to hang with...when they have time!
I am looking forward to more posts and learning more from you all. Keep up the good work and we will all be skinny when we reach heaven!!
