OK...got a little crazy at the center when I was weighed on Saturday. I lost 11 friggin pounds in my first week! Granted, I have a lot to go (6'1" and 314.4 on day one) but I have to tell you, when I saw 304.4 on the scale, I gave a little yell. Never before have I lost that much on any program (atkins included).

My daughter who I am on program with, gave me that look, and two of the ladies in the center let me know it was water and the fact that I am a guy. Obviously, no more cheering at the center.

Question: I love pickles, I see that the ones I like generally have zero calories. That's what the label says. I know sodium is a problem, but can two or three pickles with dinner hurt?

Just wondering.

I will assume that center etiquiette requires me keeping my emotions to my self!

Great Job! Yipeee all you want laugh.gif I do agree that the sodium content concerned me, but if you aren't adding any salt to your regular foods maybe it evens out. I enjoy cutting the Turkey Burger in half - sideways - and putting each half on the buns then using thickly sliced pickels as the topper. Really fills the need, instead of mayo and lots of condiments like in the old days. Keep up the good work!

I know the feeling on that first weigh in. When I first joined JC in the 90s, I lost 17 pounds in the first week. Sadly that rate did not continue, but it was still a great motivator!

As for pickles, I treat them as a free food.

Losing 11 pounds in one week is fantastic. I joined this program just two weeks ago. First week I lost 8.6lbs. I have my next WI tomorrow. I'm similar to you in that when I first started I weighed 318.7 and also being 6' 1" tall. I have enjoyed all the food to this point and I haven't cheated. I hope this program works for me because I'm tired of being overweight

Congradulations! That is awsome. Pickles are free, have as much of them as you want - with that said though, everything in moderation. You didnt gain all your weight eating pickles. The only way you would have to worry about retaining water is from not eating pickles in moderation.

I also treat them as free foods, which works great, IF a person can deal with the vinegar in them.

Don't forget about sodium content. If you have high blood pressure that could be a problem.

ya pickles are great, put them on your sandwiches too! First week weight losses are usually big, i dropped 13.4 lbs my first week, while that hasn't continued i avg 2-3 lbs a week and i am content with that, some weeks it's more though.

It's not cool that they put a downer on your parade the first week of your success on the program. I agree with everyone who's replied. CELEBRATE! smile.gif 11lbs in one week is phenomenal and no matter if it was or wasn't "water" it was still a great loss that deserves to be celebrated! As a consultant, I think sometimes I celebrate more than my clients do. Hehe. Get loud, do a happy dance and freak out (in a happy way of course) as much as you want. I wish you the very best with our program and CONGRATULATIONS! smile.gif

PS. Needless to say, everyone's said it. Pickles are free! smile.gif

i heart pickles! I buy the mini dill pickle packs by Mt. Olive at my local grocery store - they are a great afternoon snack and are easily transported to work and school.

Pickles are high in sodium, but low in calories. I use them and olives for a snack.
