Hi, all other singletons out there! I just stumbled upon this and am excited to chat with you all.

I'm currently halfway to my goal and have plateaued. I am trying to step up my cardio and strength training in order to get past this. I want to hit my goal by the end of May.

Most of my struggle is currently coming from the fact that I want to go out and have fun with friends on the weekends - and the wine just isn't helping the waistline!

Anyone else having any struggles with social temptations?

Thanks!

Handling wine and social drinking has been one of my biggest challenges. I'm a college student in my last semester, so drinking is just part of what seems to happen all the time, at every event.

I've decided a couple of things. The first is that I can only drink on a Friday or Saturday. Otherwise, it's a Diet Coke or water. I thought this would be harder than it has been. The second thing is that when I do go out, I have to bump up my workout, usually by a good 200 calories the next day. I also try to limit myself to two drinks.

I can definitely see the difference in my weigh-ins. The biggest help is the extra time at the gym and just drinking less.

I give you a lot of credit for being so disciplined while still in college - I don't think I could have done that. All we did was drink cheap beer and eat pizza at 3 a.m. (I actually did graduate with honors, but I did have fun!)Although in college I seemed to be able to eat or drink whatever I wanted and nothing happened. I hit 25 and POW! If I look at pizza, I gain a pound.

But, your suggestions are excellent. I have been incorporating the extra gym time already. I will probably just have to accept that any weeknight wine with friends will have to become weekend wine only!

Thanks for the reply and best of luck on your journey!

Hi,
I am struggling with fitting the single life and party seen into my JC program. I've always thought that dancing was the best exercise, but thanks to my JC consultant I've realized that on the nights I have a couple of drinks all the exercise (dancing) was in vein. I've gotten better with limiting my self to only having drinks on Friday or Sat. (This is ruff for someone who usually takes dance lessons during the week as well as goes out on the weekend). Also, I've found that cutting corners wherever possible helps. Avoiding mixed drinks that have juices, syrups, etc. These can add up to 200 calories to a drink. Ordering diet coke instead of regular coke, and staying on the dance floor more.

If I drink on unplanned nights, or exceed my limit. Extra workout time is a must.
At my -50lb mark I get an appletini.

Ugh, I hear you, going out can be torture because I would normally have a drink but if I go out more than once a week it can be very hard to stay on program. I have actually not been eating out as much and my BF and I have been staying home more, which has been better for my diet. What with the gas prices going out is getting WAY too expensive anyway!

If you're going to have a drink, wine is a better choice than a martini because it has far fewer calories. Hard liquor has a lot of calories, plus there is a lot of sugar in fruity drinks. A rum and diet coke isn't a bad choice either. Anything to cut the alcohol and sugar content is best.

Hello socializer. It is truly wonderful (as it's all about "balance") that you're out-and-about. That's a HUGE success. So congratulate yourself.
As for the drinks, make sure you always go out full and well-hydrated. Try soupetizer with steamed broccoli added in, if you haven't had your dinner first.
Then, remind yourself as you enter the establishment where you are meeting people that it's all about the place, the atmosphere, the conversation and interactions, your friendships and possible new ones, including romantic ones.
And then the step to take is to have no more than 2 wine spritzers (easy on the wine; do a wine to seltzer ratio of 1:3, with plenty of fresh lime). Don't have had your salad dressing that day, and when you finally do get home and eat, skip your dessert and then go straight to bed; you'll not even want it, as you had the extra Limeted Free soupetizer earlier and will be too full. By doing the above you can go out more often, and the 2 spritzers will do little damage!
Try it.
It worked for me.
Would love to know how it goes for you. Bon chance!

Wow, thanks for the tip! I'll have to try a wine spritzer w/lime....I've never had one, but that sounds like a good alternative smile.gif

I really like the singletons forum...wish there were more of us posting!
