Hey Rachel...I live in Westchester so NYC may not be an every weekend type thing. I have taken salsa lessons and know of a few studios in manahattan and some in the bx. Where in NYC are u from and are u willing to even come to the bx for classes? If not thats ok, I can suggest a few places. I sometimes go to the salsa socials on a Fri night or Sunday afternoon in the city where you can practice. Its a great workout, 650 calories per/hr!!! Lets chat.

Hi Annia -

Well, if we could go to the ones in the city on Friday night, that would be cool and maybe I can come on a Sunday afternoon to the Bronx sometime. I'm so syched that you want to do it!!

We should definitely chat, hit me up either PM on here or on my yahoo (on my profile).

Looking forward to getting my butt into shape...look out "Dancing with the Stars"!!!

Hi Rachel,

My favorite salsa event event in NYC is jimmy Anton's social which is on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 5pm-9pm. i'll probably go this Sunday. More info about this and some other events are on this website:

http://www.salsanewyork.com/calendar.htm

I've taken lessons but the place I went for lessons was only okay, so now I try to get practice by going out dancing.

This sounds like a great idea to get the exercise in. Did anyone ever start this? Either way, please let me know as I may be interested. I live in Queens and work in Manhattan, so that is not an issue for me. Hopefully, it will all work out and be a nice alternative to working out in a gym.

Hey ladies. You mentioned NYC salsa.. Check this out. I'm going tonight:

Salsa Groove:
Every Friday evening @ S.O.B.'s, New York's hottest contemporary salsa bands perform live, taking their inspiration from legendary orchestras of the past like Tito Puento, Orchestra Aragon, El Gran Combo, Manolito Simonet Y su Trabuco and mix it up with the Latino sounds of today, like merengue, bachata and Reggaeton. From the novice to the smoothest salsero, everybody gets on their feet to dance at Salsa Groove. And even if you're hopeless on the dancefloor, come by at 7pm for a free salsa lesson and New York's most experienced (and patient) dance instructors will be on hand, prior to the show, to guide you to razor sharp moves. Plus, the Mojitos at the bar are the best in the city, so that helps too! Once the show starts, the vibe is electric. Whether its Jimmy Bosch, Issac Delgado or Johnny Pacheco, the band will take you through a salsa experience unlike any other that will have you groovin' from the minute you walk in to the second you walk out. When you need a break, sit down for dinner and enjoy our delicious menu of Nuevo Latino cuisine with food like platanos, empanadas, and mariscada. After Salsa Groove, the party continues so stick around for the late-night Manhattan Haitian Dance party with the best live bands in Konpa music.
[b]Every Friday 5-11pm. FREE for women/$10 for men before 7pm, $15 for all after 8pm. S.O.B.'s 204 Varick Street @ the corner of Houston Take 1 train to Houston 212.243.4940
