do the rotini with meatballs and swedish meatballs have dairy listed as an ingredient??? I keep asking my center for a list of items with no dairy and they're clueless! they won't tell me! I'm breastfeeding and need non dairy items because of my baby's sensitivity. I can't keep buying JC items only to find out they've got dairy in it and then I can't eat it!

so far I know JC has items with no dairy in:
cherrios
triple grain crisps
beef and barley stew
cashew chicken
sweet and sour chicken
cinnamon twists
mustard pretzels

Help!

Just my two cents in on Amy's Frozen dinners..I have been using them pretty much exclusively, and I've lost almost 5 lbs in three weeks. I am a return client to JC and am following the basic principles, just can't buy the food due to budget.

I have a question.....are you saying you can buy other food and still be on the JC program? I thought buying JC food was mandatory? I'm over my l/2 way point but have never been told I could use my own food choices. I do know I'm allowed two days "on my own".

My JCC said that Progresso Lite Veggie soup is the same as the JC soupitizer - 1/2 can = 1 soupitizer.

All exchanges are within ~20 calories of JC.

Cheesy Enchilada-
Lean Cusine Chicken Enchilada Suiza
Soudough Bites-
UTZ Sourdough Fat Free Pretzle Nuggets
Strawberry Bar-
Natures promise granola bars- strawberry

Bean with bacon & ham soup-
Campbells Select RTS soup Bean w/Ham, each can has 2 servings
Beef chow mein-
Lean cusine chicken chow mein

Thank you for this. I am a new member and all I keep thinking about is how am I going to do this on my own without all JC foods.

Just started back last week on JC and am glad to be focused again. The food is so expensive though so glad to see this thread. I do not buy any JC breakfasts---that is an easy meal to do on your own. I buy some Smart Ones breakfast items but mostly have cereal or an egg and toast with fruit. Half a bagel with all fruit is really good. That is how I save some money.

If you are in Canada.....the Genisoy Bars are almost a complete match for our daily Jenny Bar.

Also Special K Satisfaction is delicious and very similar to the Complete Start cereal. 1 1/4 cups gives you the same breakdown as a package of Complete Start. It is lower in fibre so I use 1 cup of Satisfaction and 1/4 cup of Fibre One.

I agree on the special K satisfaction...i only use a cup worth and i am quite full! tastes good smile.gif

I didn't read all 11 pages but wanted to post for any Canadian's on here that real Canadian Superstore or Sobey's back east has Presidents Choice Blue Menu items that are all within JC calories etc and 1/3 of the price.

Here's a few of my favourties:

Question to everyone substituting JC food for other food....Are you guys at or past your half way point and have meals on your own or are substituting foods right away? If so when you don't order 7 breakfast, lunch, dinners, and snacks, what does the consultant say? I think mine would questions my amounts and ask me why I'm not buying the correct amount. I am not at my halfway point yet. Please help me out! I am struggling with how much I am spending too.

Thanks.

I totally agree with this...I love broiled fish and my husband and I go fishing a lot in the summer months...so I am planning on grilling redfish and steaming veggies quite often on weekends!

I think it is a great thread as well. Because number one as folks are seeing, by the time you purchase Jenny Craig foods and fresh produce - your food bill is crazy.
Also you aren't going to be eating Jenny's meals forever, so meals on your own now while in the safety of the programs care I think should be tried.
Sodium - it doesn't matter how much anyone puts in the food - I'll add more if I feel it needs it for taste. Salt has zero calories.
Desserts - I don't hardly ever eat dessert, weeks one and two have me eating dessert. I like salty snacks (see above) so I want to use your suggestions to now plan my own menus and snacks and a dessert rarely. Why eat a 170 calorie lemon cake that I find unpleasant ~ when I could have what I normally typically will eat - which I see in your posts here. Excellent.
I want broiled fish, or poached salmon. I can have it, it is good for health! Yet the Jenny Craig offering is a fried imitation of fish and chips? I'm not going to be eating fish and chips! I'm going to be eating broiled fish. So beats me why I am eating like this sometimes.
Had to comment on the brilliant posts and thank you all.
I'll have to do some research on my own and let you know what I find as well.
Susannie

I wondered this too...since I am just starting week 3 I don't really need to know right away...but...at some point can we ask our consultant if we can just order certain meals and save costs? I didn't realized they would let us just buy certain meals...that would save money after we hit our halfway point...

I've been substituting dinners since my 3rd week on JC before I reached halfway. Because of the lack of meatless options and the disgusting ones they have (to me anyway). I just told my consultant I refused to eat the same dinner 7 nights a week until I reached my halfway or goal. She couldn't argue with me, hard to have success that way. I have continued to loose weight every week with the substitution. I have reached halfway now (last weigh in) and when I didn't order as many breakfasts and luches she wasn't too happy with me. I just told her egg beaters were on sale and other frozen meals and explained how I was going to prepare my foods so she knew I was going to stay on track and then let up a bit. It's hard to know if consultants are holding you back from not buying because they want their commission or because they are conserned you will loose track. Just stay firm!

My consultant missed ordering my Canadian bar and when I went looking for one on a sunday and didn't have any I ran to the grocery store to see what I could find as a replacement and found the Slim Fast oatmeal raisin meal bar.

225 cal,
15 g protein
6.1g fat,
29g carbs,
sugar 14g,
fibre 1.5g
sodium 270mg
compare that to Cinnimon Raisin Canadian bar
240cal,
protein 15g,
6.6g fat,
34g carbs, fibre 4g,
sugar 19g,
sodium 302mg

I don't know the price comparison because I've never seen what I'm paying for a box of JC bars.

Hi All,
I'm so glad someone started this substitute food page. NO you don't have to buy Jenny food don't let them trick you. I would suggest at least the first 2 weeks so you can see portions on your dishes at home. Make your own soup with low sodium broths and just free veggies and go to town.
I'll keep checking back for ideas I hope everyone keeps posting.
I'm one lb away from my 1/2 way point and buy minimal JC food. Just pay attention to portion and rules and you can do it. It may come off a little bit slower but you will always weigh in with a loss....

Hi! Just wondering what you eat during the day, can you give me example? I didn't realize that you can eat your foods and not their foods and still get the help from them? It is very expensive. Thanks for your help.

I'm in Canada too and a lot of those blue menu PC items look fairly comparable. My only concern is that a lot of the items seem to have higher sodium content then something comparable from Jenny.

Hello everyone. I am a newbie to JC, just finishing my 1st week tomorrow. Food's been pretty good, but I can already tell I am going to want to add some variety as I go. So just wanted to say how much I appreciate this thread!

Since I'm new, I don't have many suggestions to contribute, but I did discover one thing this week. Instead of JC Lite Table Syrup, I used Mrs. Butterworth's Sugar Free syrup. Here's the nut. info: Serving size=1/4 cup (60ml) 20 calories, 0g fat, 160mg sodium, 8g carbs, 0g protein. {I only used 1/2 of the serving} JC's syrup: serving size = 1oz. (28g) 35 calories, 0g fat, 25mg sodium, 9g carbs, 0g protein.

I have been using this syrup long before joining JC (my dad is diabetic). . . I guess the sodium is kind of high? I don't know how the taste compares, cuz I didn't even try the JC syrup packet. Mrs. BW isn't always easy to find, but I can usually find it at Target or Walmart in my area.

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions.

Fiber One makes a great pancake mix. Just add water. I love it with some turkey sausage and sugar free syrup!
