This is from the Weight Watchers board -"PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC. Our community includes boards covering a wide range of topics related to weight loss. If you want to engage in long debates about religion or politics, or any topics unrelated to weight loss, we hope you'll find a more appropriate forum." I suggest we add this rule.

I think it's ok to have specific support threads for a particular religious persuasion in a designated area, as long as it stays on the topic of health/fitness/weight loss. I agree, though, about posts staying on topic. If I want political arguments or general chatter there are about a million other boards to choose from ...

I've wanted to allow for various support groups of different types.
However, I can see that it's getting to a point that people can't seem to get along without fighting.
I think I'm going to try to get people to stay on topic a bit more in the future (wish me luck on that one).

Just my two cents - there is a difference between posting weight loss support for people with common interests on a board and posting prayers.
That is just my two cents on the subject.

Christians who use that thread for support are using it a weight loss tool. I find it a marvelous way to stay excited about this program. We use prayer as a way to cheer our sisters (and brothers on this program whether they are christians or not) on in the same way that others use words of praise and encouragement. I wouldn't be doing as well as I am if that thread didn't exist. The sense of caring and togetherness that I feel toward my fellow christian in this program is helping me with my weight loss.
I al sorprised by the attention that this is getting! We're just supporting each other, as everyone else here is, but we do it with prayer. We don't post on boards other that the one that clearly states what kind of thread it is, we don't belittle anyone for NOT being christians, we lift each other up and support each other, we just use prayer. Thats the only difference.
To say that our christian thread has nothing to do with motivation to lose weight is not true. It's vital! We trust in the Lord to guide us in our everyday life, why would we not do the same in reguards to our weight loss? It's who we are. Are gay or lesbian people not alllowed to be gay or lesbian when they use this message board? Of course not, thats ridiculous and small minded! We all have our own way of motivation and I celebrate the diversity of people on this program! To have too narrow of a focus is going to exclude others who NEED a particular kind of help and that is sad for everyone. I welcome any discusion on this subject, but please give me the opportunity to keep my motivation for my weight loss journey. I am excited to be on Jenny Craig and it's working!! The program is wonderful and my J. D. consultant is fantastic, but thats not it. Sharing with fellow believers and being able to praise God for every success and failure is every bit, if not more important than any of the things I mentioned.
I hope that you can understand.

Personally, I agree with your assessments. I think we should allow as many constructive ways for our community to support each other as possible.
My concern, however, is that it becomes a "I believe this, you believe that" argument and thus alters the objective from support and encouragement to one of divisive "you're different from me" comments.
I am going to keep the religious threads within the "Get Inspired" forum. I don't see any harm in the topics being there as long as they're supportive and ultimately assist community members in realizing their weight loss objectives.
However, I will not be adding religion specific forums as I believe that would become too granular for support groups. Plus, to be fair, we'd have to list 50-some religions.
Ideally, I'd love for all of us to be able to share opinions and topics without the name calling that we've seen much too frequently of late.

Brandon
Thank you for being fair. I also would LOVE to be able to have an open conversation about anything, no matter where I'm at on the boards, but until that time comes I'll be more than happy to keep my prayers contained to the appropriate board. Baby steps.
