A Bit of a Vent

Let me say first of all that I have been a strong proponent of Jenny Craig. I get creative with the meals, I love adding in fresh veggies, and I've lost a lot of weight and felt great.

But lately I am getting really annoyed with Jenny Craig, as a corporation.

First, they cancelled the app with no warning, promised they would roll out something new, solicited feedback (which I took the time to provide) and then decided that they weren't going to replace the app in the end. Well, can we have back the old app at least? No. Why?????

Second, I figured even though I didn't have the app, I could at least plan out my meals online to make sure that they were balanced and then print off my schedule for the week and check things off that way instead of via the app. So I went back to the website to do that and I was having difficulty finding the menu-planner feature. Upon chatting with a representative online, I found out that it will be discontinued. The reason? They don't think it is necessary. Again, what is the point of CANCELLING features that you had as selling points when people joined the program? Total bait-and-switch.

Then I talked to my consultant about it this week and she told me that the reason they are doing all of this is that they aren't allowing people to make their own menu plans anymore. They've always discouraged it, but now they won't allow you to sign up at all unless you agree to sticked to the menu plans as they are written.

It's annoying because I REALLY don't like the menu plans. I've tried following individual weeks, I've tried picking individual days. I just can't. I end up with foods that I hate, that then sit in my freezer while I make excuses for reasons to stop for fast food. Its bad.

It would be so easy for them to make a program that required participatnts to only order food that fits within a particular set of weekly guidelines. If they can't figure it out themselves (or don't want to take the time), then they can do a planned menu. If they can and want to, then they get to customize their menu and eat what they like. This isn't rocket science, it's just computer programming.

I love Jenny, but I can't recommend it to people anymore now that they don't offer customization. It's annoying to see a company take something that is simple and make it needlessly regulated.

I didn't use the tools, but I'm totally with you on this. It's not right, and it has the potential to break people, or like you suggested....sabotaging by forcing them foods they don't want.

My very first week on jenny I tried the planned foods. I could not choke down the shelf stable things. Since then, I've done my own thing, and bought only frozen foods. More money, but more success.

My centre is extremely understanding and accommodating with my "demands". I left for a brief period, they called to ask me back, I desperately needed it, but I had conditions and they work with me. If they start putting stipulations on me, while I'm spending $150 week on their foods, paying my membership fees, and succeeding, I may leave too. I am a paying customer. I say what goes in (assuming I'm following guidelines). If they were paying me, I'd understand being forced to follow their menu and eat some of the food that's awful.

PS: I too am a huge Jenny supporter. It changed my life, totally.

I agree entirely.  I can't recommend a program that removes useful tools for no good reason.  Also will not recommend a program that forces you to buy/stick to a rigid food menu.

I am lucky that my center has not made me to do the planned menus and I can have flexibility in what I can buy.  I am very disheartened by them removing the planner.  I think they are shooting themselves in the foot and taking away useful tools that the users find very valuable.

@Ned19455 Totally agree with you. I haven't had much chance to use the online tools because I joined beginning of May. I planned to use MyFitnessPal for tracking anyway, but menu planning took some figuring out. Now I have an excel planner that works pretty well. Check out my blog "Fun with JC" :).

I started over 1 week ago in a center. I  gave a list of what foods I want and she gave them to me. I cannot follow their menu plan because I dislike alot of the foods and will not stay on the diet. They were great about it. So sorry your having trouble. Hope they get back to seeing the person and not the dollar soon. That's why Jenny Craig was started. The individual...

Well! This is all bad news to me.  The "My Tracker" is going away as well.  I asked the representative when I called and asked are they going bankrupt?  Why are they removing tools that enable progress.  In this time of age why are they limiting the technology capabilities to help you better yourself.  Yeesh!, I must add this venting is fine but I still feel no matter what the customer says its accomplishing nothing.

I've been wondering about bankruptcy for a long time. Really sketchy things going down at my center with staff turnover, sudden retirements, etc, feared it was the location...now I wonder if it's something else.
